The Lower Urinary Tract

Lab 7

March 2, 2021 - Dr. Constantin

([email protected])

Introduction:

This lab builds on previous anatomy labs from year 1 (labs 10 & 11 - Pelvis Walls & Viscera and Perineum) and year 2 (lab 7 - Urogenital System). The checklist for this lab will focus on the anatomy of the lower urinary

tract (in biological males). Objectives:

• Identify features of bladder and urethra in a male pelvis • Describe the male genital organs

• Describe the structures along the sperm path from the testes to the navicular fossa

Volume 5 - Internal Organs

Reproductive System

5.3.1 Scrotum, testes 5.3.2 Seminal pathway 5.3.3 Penis, distal part

5.3.4 Penis, support & attachments 5.3.5 Muscles of the perineum 5.3.6 Penis, proximal part

Abdominal Organs

5.2.30 Bladder, male

These are the relevant videos

covering the lab objectives: Use the modules and 3D models to help identify checklist structures:

Pelvic Bones: Ischiopubic arch Pubic symphysis Ischial spine Ischial tuberosity Obturator foramen ASIS Iliac crest

([email protected]) Questions for the Lab:

1) What is erectile dysfunction? What are the main risk factors in younger vs. older males?

2) What is the most frequent cancer in males in Canada? What are the main risk factors?

3) Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer can present with similar clinical symptoms. What are some of the main differences that can be palpated through DRE (digital rectal examination)?
