A project marked as a program becomes a program. The difference then is

that it can be opened only in read mode and is used to manage a portfolio of

projects under it.

Program

A project is a set of activities designed to achieve a specific objective. Its key

elements are tasks, which define project work, and staff, who perform it.

Project

Project

A sub project is also a project. It is known as a sub project only if it is added as

subproject to any project.

Now that the plan is created, we can define Dependencies between the tasks.

However, it is not mandatory to define dependant tasks in your project plan.

There are Four Dependency types:

1.Finish – Start

2.Finish – Finish

3.Start – Start

4.Start – Finish

Resources can be assigned in two ways:

1. Through Spreadsheet

You can drag a resource row and drop it over a task row and vice versa to

assign a resource to one or more tasks. Similarly you can also select

one or more task rows and drop them on one resource or select one or

more resources and drop it over one task to make multiple assignments

2. Through Task Property Dialogue Box

You can double click a task row header and select the resources to be

assigned to the selected task but not vice versa

Estimated time to complete is a projection of the time and / or effort

required to complete a project activity

Estimated time to complete is a value that is expressed in hours of work

required to complete a task or project

During the initial stages of project planning one of the main objectives is

to get a realistic estimation of time to complete. Estimating the time to

complete is one component of the project plan

Estimated Time to Complete (ETC)

(101)

Information Systems Group (ISG)

Once a resource is assigned enter an ETC

ETC defines the number of hours that are estimated to complete a project or task. Once a project

or task is underway, ETC reflects the number of remaining hours estimated to complete the project.

Baseline creates a snapshot for later comparison with the then current plan in order to

1.Baseline only the selected tasks

To be done when there are additions to your original base lined plan. Select only the newly
