Rope holding product design is continually changing as new ropes are developed and crews demand simpler and faster line handling.

When specifying rope holding gear or when looking for better performance, here are some ideas:

Check ‘Spinlock Suggests’: our interactive rope holding app and database to help select the right product/rope combination.

Clutch or Jammer? Clutches are ideal for frequently adjusted lines. Jammers are preferred for secure locking of highly loaded lines.

Be prepared to upgrade your clutch or jammer when changing to a new, thinner or low stretch line or when making upgrades to sails, spars and equipment.

The greater the diameter of the line, the better the load holding. Consider internal or external line sleeving in the clutching or jamming area to increase rope diameter.

Clean your clutches and jammers regularly. Hose out the

mechanism, flush salt, dirt and rope debris away from the gripping and bearing surfaces. Grease bearing surfaces with Spinlock lubricant after cleaning.

A compressed paper element / bobin dissolves to release a sprung needle which pierces the CO2 cylinder. Sea, spray or

rain running down through the unit should not cause activation. Only water flowing upwards will activate firing.

Will not inflate until the cap is approximately 10cm underwater.

It is designed for use in more extreme conditions and extended offshore sailing.
