LETTERHEAD

Description:

Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo.

Date:

11/8/2014

Course/Instructor:

Comm 130 Section 03 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools

Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.

Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator and InDesign.

Process:

I took my logo for TMT and created lines off of it like a grid. Then I took a nice color scheme to the bottom of the letterhead and the logo. I decided to cut the top rectangle off short to create a section for the information to go in the right corner.

Program(s)/Tools

Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.

Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator and InDesign.

Process:

I created the logo to incorporate an “M” and two “T”s to stand for TMT. I then created a grid system to show that the company deals in creating software. I carried that logo to the front of the business card. I chose four really nice colors to go on each of the parts in the logo and carried those four colors onto the bottom of the front of the business card and also the bottom of the letterhead.

BROCHURE

8

Description:

A two-sided (duplex) folding brochure.

Date:

11/8/2014

Course/Instructor:

Comm 130 Section 03 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools

Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Set up and align a two-sided folded document. Learn how to wrap text around an image. Use paragraph styles in InDesign.

Process:

I decided to go with a simple tri-fold brochure. I took images of my own work and used them for the brochure. I used the pen tool to create the diagonal cuts across the page from the image to the sections of text. I used the pen tool again to create the body copy sections where the text paragraph should follow the slant of the box.

Date:

11/22/2014

Course/Instructor:

Comm 130 Section 03 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools

Adobe Illustrator Brackets

Objectives:

Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content.

Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS.

Process:

I created the HTML document myself and inserted all of the important information that I needed to use. Then I took a CSS template and pretty much rewrote everything so I could understand what was doing what. Then I took the purple from my logo and bought it to the bottom of the web page. I changed the fonts and threw in an iPhone with my logo on it to make it interesting.

Course/Instructor:

Comm 130 Section 03 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools

Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator

Process:

I used the pen tool to create the pen in the three logos. I found a nice golden color for the top logo and found the complimentary blue color for the pen. I found some awesome script fonts online and incorporated them into the three logos to make the connection to calligraphy.

PHOTODESIGN

14

Description:

A personally taken photograph that has been edited/ formatted using Photoshop.

Date:

10/18/2014

Course/Instructor:

Comm 130 Section 03 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools

Adobe Photoshop Nikon S9000 Camera

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image.

Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process:

I brought the photo into Photoshop and edited it with the four basic edits. I sharpened the divots in the basketball to have them stand out more. I also took out some blemishes from the ball with the spot healing tool. Then I cropped it to fit the rule of thirds better. I created two rectangles and took the colors from the photo with the eye-dropper tool. I set up the photo to have complimentary colors in it.

MONTAGE

16

Description:

An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.

Date:

10/26/2014

Course/Instructor:

Comm 130 Section 03 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools

Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers.

Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters.

Apply appropriate typography.

Process:

I cropped the background image to 8.5×11. I selected Jesus and the child and moved him to the background image, then I added a mask. With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard image edges. With a larger black brush at 30% opacity and 30% flow, I blended the image into the background, so it looks like he and the child is melting into the scene. I added a scripture verse with varying fonts, with emphasis on certain words that I wanted to stand out.

EVENT AD

18

Description:

A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.

Date:

10/11/2014

Course/Instructor:

Comm 130 Section 03 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools

Microsoft Word Scanner

Objectives:

Find, scan, and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design.

Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:

I took an image that my roommate had of him cycling and scanned it using the scanner in the lab. The print was smaller than I would have liked, so I scanned it using 300ppi so that I could make it a bit larger. I wanted the picture to be the center piece. I started with just the orange rectangle filling up the bottom third of the piece. I found a triad color that I used in the other two shapes that I created in the flier.

InDesign

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.

Create a project folder with image, logo, and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:

Sketches were used first to brainstorm different layouts. I then went into InDesign to create the digital copy. After a rough draft and three different critiques, I revised the flier to make the final copy. I created the title the largest to grab the attention of the viewer first.
