Head injury

A head injury can happen in an instant and have a devastating impact on you, your family and friends. In Lyons Davidson’s Catastrophic Injury Team, we pride ourselves in supporting you and your loved ones in a sensitive and empathic way throughout your legal claim for compensation after your injury. Our clients are at the heart of our business.

The most common causes of a traumatic head injury are:

• Road traffic accidents • Accidents at work • Assaults

• Trips or falls in public • Sporting injury

A head injury can cause all kinds of difficulties. That’s why it’s so important to have a legal team who know about brain injury and who listen to and understand your own individual circumstances and your concerns. You may have mobility problems, sensory loss, epilepsy or speech and language difficulties. You may have problems with your memory or difficulties concentrating.

You or your family may have noticed that your emotions and behaviour have changed since your head injury.

A head injury can have an impact on all aspects of your life, from your employment to your financial situation to your relationships. Lyons Davidson are sensitive to the wider effects of head injury and support you and your family throughout the legal claim to give you access to the support you need.

We will request an early interim payment to ease financial hardship, if this is available and appropriate to your circumstances. As well as securing financial compensation for you, as part of our holistic service, we will support you wherever possible in accessing rehabilitation services, getting advice on housing issues or pointing you to advice on benefits.

We can also help direct you to advice about the financial impact of a compensation award, assisting you with getting advice on how to protect your award, whether through a personal injury trust or tax planning.

If you aren’t able to manage your own affairs, then Lyons Davidson’s Private Client Team can help you appoint a deputy: this can be a member of your family or a friend. Sometimes, you may need a professional deputy to support you and we can help you with this, too.

We are included in the Headway Head Injury Solicitors Directory as a result of our experience in supporting our clients who have sustained a head injury.

Spinal injury

Lyons Davidson’s Catastrophic Injury Team is mindful of the impact and effects that a spinal cord injury can have on you and your whole way of life.

The most common causes of a traumatic spinal cord injury are:

• Road traffic accidents • Accidents at work • Assaults

• Trips or falls in public • Sporting injury

Lyons Davison’s holistic approach ensures that we understand the impact of the injury on you, and the issues and concerns you have, whether medical, physical, social or financial.

We understand the key health issues requiring effective management as quickly as possible, such as preventing bed sores and DVT, and bowel and bladder care. Unlike other injuries, spinal cord injuries can result in autonomic dysreflexia, which can affect your health after the initial injury and lead to further complications if not managed properly. You might be suffering from a lack of temperature regulation, respiratory issues or cardiovascular issues following your spinal cord injury. A spinal injury can have an impact on all aspects of your life, from your employment and financial situation to your relationships. We are sensitive to the wider effects of spinal injury and will support you and your family throughout the legal claim to access the support you need.

Our clients are at the heart of our business, so we work to ensure you get the appropriate rehabilitation services to help maximise and maintain your recovery.

We will request an early interim payment to ease financial hardship, if this is available and appropriate to your circumstances.

As well as securing the best financial compensation for you, as part of our holistic service, we will support you wherever possible in accessing rehabilitation services, getting advice on housing or aids and equipment.

Spinal and brain injury:

We are also aware of and experienced in dealing with legal claims that involve traumatic spinal cord injury and another injury, such as amputation or head injury.

We are Gold Corporate Partners with the Spinal Injuries Association.

Serious injury in children

We provide legal services for children who have been

seriously injured. This can include head, spinal or any other serious injury, whether through an accident or clinical negligence, for example, a birth injury. At Lyons Davidson, we understand the earth-shattering effect that a serious injury can have on a child and their family.

Our team will guide and support you through your child’s compensation claim with sensitivity and empathy. We give advice and can come up with innovative answers to the problems that you may encounter as a family. We are mindful of the importance of educational issues and the need to resolve or support your child and you through them.

We can signpost other information and support that is available about benefits, and help you get support from charitable organisations.

We have detailed knowledge of clinical and rehabilitation needs following a catastrophic injury. We understand the overwhelming emotional impact on your child and the whole family. The need to care for your child may also have a financial impact on you. At Lyons Davidson, we are sensitive to the wider implications of your child’s injury and will support you and your family throughout every step of the legal claim, so you can all get the support available that will help your child thrive and so you can enjoy a family life.

We offer a holistic service as our clients are at the heart of our business.

We make sure the appropriate rehabilitation services are available to help to maximise and maintain your child’s recovery.
