CLC + 2: A PATH TO A BACHELOR’S DEGREE

Begin your cost-saving

bachelor’s degree at CLC.

Complete your freshman and sophomore years at

CLC and your junior and senior years at a four-year

college or university.

CLC: The start of your bachelor’s degree

On average, by combining two years at CLC with two years at a four-year college or university, you can save about $18,000 on tuition and fees at a public university and nearly $50,000 at a private school.

Strong transfer programs

Data from Illinois public universities show that CLC students do well when they transfer, and other data from the National Clearinghouse indicates that students go on from CLC to attend institutions ranging from public universities to Ivy Leagues.

A good place to decide on a major

CLC is an excellent place to explore majors, not just because of our cost-friendly tuition but because we offer so many transfer majors (48). Learn more about transfer majors at www.clcillinois.edu/transfer.

Higher earnings

When your goal is to enter the workforce right after CLC, choose one of our career preparation programs. These two-year degrees and shorter career certificates give you higher earning potential in less time than a bachelor’s degree program.

Start your great career

occupation salaries*

Automotive Service Technician $38,200 Computer Support Specialist $48,400

Paralegal $50,100

Refrigeration Technician $56,500

Engineering Technician $59,300

Dental Hygienist $73,900

* Median annual salaries for the Chicago area, according to the careerinfonet.org.

Graduates of applied science associate degree programs are prepared for well-paid

careers. In fact, a study conducted by the Georgetown Center on Education and the

Workforce found that about

28.2 percent of associate degree graduates actually

out-earn bachelor’s degree recipients

.

* For more information about our graduation rates, the median debt of students who completed the program, and other important information, please visit our website at www.clcillinois.edu/gainfulemployment.

Gain solid career skills and prepare for transfer

Associate in Applied Science degree programs were created to

provide specific skills and knowledge for immediate employment after graduation. Credits from many programs, however, can be applied to transfer programs at four-year schools.

For example, most career A.A.S. degrees include general education courses (such as ENG 121), which you may be able to transfer. Additionally, CLC has developed several “articulation agreements” with four-year schools that allow transfer of credits toward bachelor’s degree programs.

For details, visit www.clcillinois.edu/transfer.

CLC CAREER PROGRAM SUCCESS STORY:

Paralegal Studies

When Deborah Long’s youngest child was getting ready to start school, she knew she wanted to go back to work. She had a bachelor’s degree from Southern Arkansas University and had worked in marketing, but she wanted a different career. “I have always been interested in law, so I attended an information session on CLC’s Paralegal Studies program. It seemed a perfect match for me.”

Deborah earned a certificate in the Paralegal Studies program and got a job as a paralegal. She loved the legal field so much that she applied to the Marquette University Law School. She graduated in 2014, has since passed the Illinois State Bar exam and now holds a position in a law firm as an associate attorney, where she practices in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Deborah Long began her path to a career in law by enrolling in CLC’s Paralegal Studies program.

Learn about the program at www.clcillinois.edu/pls.

(8)

CLC offers:

For bachelor’s degree seekers:

• Associate degree programs in math, computer science, physics, chemistry, biological sciences and engineering that prepare students for transfer to a four-year college or university.

• An “Engineering Pathways” program guaranteeing qualifying students admission to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Engineering as juniors. Learn about applying for this program at

www.clcillinois.edu/pathways.

For immediate career preparation:

• Associate in Applied Science and career certificates preparing students for immediate entry into

technology careers after graduating.

• Articulation agreements with institutions like Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, DeVry University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Northern Illinois University and Ferris State University to provide a path to bachelor’s degree completion for A.A.S. graduates. Details at

www.clcillinois.edu/articulation.

Interested in an in-demand STEM career?

According to the U.S. Bureau

of Labor Statistics, STEM occupations—those in science, technology, engineering

and mathematics—will add about 1 million jobs by 2022 and overall will grow

faster than the average for all occupations, making these fields a major source

of tomorrow’s jobs.

“My A.A.S. degree gave me the job skills employers want, and now under an

articulation agreement, my credits are counting toward a B.S. degree that will help

me advance even further.” — Ryan Skarb

To explore STEM classes offered in the fall semester, visit www.clcillinois.edu/classes.

Ryan Skarb completed an Associate in Applied

Science degree at CLC and is now working toward Southern Illinois University-Carbondale’s Bachelor in Science degree in industrial technology at the University Center of Lake County. The University Center is located on CLC’s Grayslake Campus.

International study-abroad opportunities

Success in today’s global economy requires an understanding of world cultures. That is the reason CLC offers many international education opportunities.

As a CLC student, you can, for example, spend a semester abroad in China and other countries, or you can go on a short-term study trip. (This year’s destinations include Central Europe, Costa Rica, Peru and Panama.)

You can also experience the world right in our classrooms. The college welcomes international students from many countries, and these students broaden the educational experience we offer. They, in turn, find a welcoming environment, strong academic programs and an award-winning Intensive English Language Program.

Learn more about our study abroad programs and admission of international students at www.clcillinois.edu/cie.
