Pleasant Hill, 9:30 Brown’s Chapel, 11:00 Third Sunday of Lent March 7, 2021

PRELUDE “Of The Glory of God in The Starry Heavens” PH

“Come! Come! Everybody Worship” BC GREETING AND CALL TO WORSHIP

PSALM 19

VERSE 14 OUR PRAYER

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen.

*HYMN OF GOD’S GATHERING PEOPLE #159 “Lift High the Cross”

(Refrain)

Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adore his sacred name. 1. Come, Christians, follow this triumphant sign. The hosts of God in unity combine.

2. Each newborn servant of the Crucified bears on the brow the seal of him who died. 4. O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree, as thou hast promised, draw the world to thee. 5. So shall our song of triumph ever be: Praise to the Crucified for victory! *A MODERN AFFIRMATION #885

Pastor: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare: All: We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all His works, and whose will is ever directed to His children's good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father's unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in

our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.

*GLORIA PATRI #70

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

WORDS OF NOTICE & CONGREGATIONAL CONCERNS PRAYERS FOR OUR NEEDS

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Exodus 20:1-20 A WORD FOR THE CHILDREN

PRAYER OF BLESSING OVER THE COIN COLLECTION GOSPEL LESSON John 2:13-22

*HYMN OF AFFIRMATION #424

“Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone” 1. Must Jesus bear the cross alone,

And all the world go free? No, there’s a cross for everyone, And there’s a cross for me. 2. How happy are the saints above,

Who once went sorrowing here! But now they taste unmingled love, And joy without a tear.

3. The consecrated cross I’ll bear Till death shall set me free;

And then go home my crown to wear, For there’s a crown for me.

EPISTLE LESSON I Corinthians 1:18-25

SERMON Enough Fear Ray Gooch PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH

OFFERTORY “The Law of The Lord Is Perfect” PH “Sweet Hour of Prayer” BC PRESENTATION OF OUR GIFTS

(3)

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*HYMN PRAYER FOR ENOUGH FEAR #577 “God of Grace and God of Glory”

God of grace and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power; crown the ancient church's story; bring its bud to glorious flower.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour.

2. Lo! the hosts of evil round us, scorn thy Christ, assail his ways! Fears and doubts too long have bound us’ free our hearts to work

and praise. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days, for the living of these days. 3. Cure thy children's warring madness, bend our pride to thy

control; shame our wanton, selfish gladness,

rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, lest we miss thy kingdom's goal, lest we miss thy kingdom's goal.

4.

Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore; let the search for thy salvation be our glory evermore. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving thee whom we adore,

serving thee whom we adore. BENEDICTION AND BLESSING

THREEFOLD AMEN #898
