Religious Freedom Week 2021

Each year, the Catholic Church in the United States rec-ognizes Religious Freedom Week, June 22-29, as an op-portunity to celebrate the founding freedom of our nation, as well as the work that must be done to ensure religious freedom remains a priority. The theme for this year is Solidarity in Freedom. As our religious rights increasing-ly come under attack, it is critical that we consider the invitation of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops to pray, reflect, and take action on religious liberty. Now, more than ever, we need Solidarity in Freedom. To learn more about Religious Freedom Week 2021 and how you can participate, visit: arlingtondiocese.org/

On the Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, we hear about the Kingdom of God in our Gospel reading. But what exactly is the Kingdom of God? The Catechism teaches: “Everyone is called to enter the kingdom. First announced to the children of Israel, this messianic kingdom is intended to accept men of all nations. To enter it, one must first accept Jesus' word: ‘The word of the Lord is compared to a seed which is sown in a field; those who hear it with faith and are numbered among the little flock of Christ have truly received the kingdom. Then, by its own power, the seed sprouts

and grows until the harvest.’ The kingdom belongs to the poor and lowly, which means those who

have accepted it with humble hearts. Jesus is sent to ‘preach good news to the poor’;he declares

them blessed, for ‘theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’ To them - the ‘little ones’ the Father is pleased

to reveal what remains hidden from the wise and the learned.Jesus shares the life of the poor, from

the cradle to the cross; he experiences hunger, thirst and privation. Jesus identifies himself with the poor of every kind and makes active love toward them the condition for entering his kingdom. Jesus invites sinners to the table of the kingdom: ‘I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.’ He invites them to that conversion without which one cannot enter the king-dom, but shows them in word and deed his Father’s boundless mercy for them and the vast ‘joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.’ The supreme proof of his love will be the sacrifice of his own life ‘for the forgiveness of sins.’ Jesus’

invita-tion to enter his kingdom comes in the form of parables, a characteristic feature of his teaching.Through his parables he

invites people to the feast of the kingdom, but he also asks for a radical choice: to gain the kingdom, one must give

every-thing.Words are not enough, deeds are required. The parables are like mirrors for man: will he be hard soil or good earth

for the word? What use has he made of the talents he has received?Jesus and the presence of the kingdom in this world are

secretly at the heart of the parables. One must enter the kingdom, that is, become a disciple of Christ, in order to ‘know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven.’ For those who stay ‘outside,’ everything remains enigmatic.” (CCC 543-546)

CCD 2021-2022: We are hoping to resume regular in-person catechism classes in the fall, on Tuesday afternoons/

evenings. We are looking for catechists who can help rebuild our program, and in coming weeks, we will be opening en-rollment for students to fill our classrooms. Who’s ready to help proclaim and build the Kingdom?

ST. FAUSTINA OF DIVINE MERCY SAID: " Once, the image was being exhibit-ed over the altar during the Corpus Christi procession [June 20, 1935]. When the priest exposed the Blessed Sacrament and the choir began to sing, the rays from the image pierced the Sacred Host and spread out all over the world. Then I heard these words: These rays of mercy will pass through you, just as they have passed through this Host, and they will go out through all the

world. At these words, profound joy invaded my soul." (St. Faustina Diary, 441) Used with permission of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the BVM

Rosary is prayed at 3:40. The purpose of this hour is to

give children a designated time with their parents to pray with their peers, to practice leading prayers, and to learn the importance of sacred silence. Some children may not be ready for the whole hour, so please just come for as long as you are able. Any time with Jesus is time well spent! We ask the parish to please pray for these children that they may develop a lifelong devotion to Jesus in Adoration! We also ask your pardon during this hour as the children learn the beauty of sacred silence. Any questions: Please contact: Jack and Heather Hsu at [email protected]

Thank you for your prayers!
