Howard College / SWCID Official Design Set

It is not our intent to stifle creativity with these guidelines, but it is our intent to brand Howard College by conveying consistent messages and visual images to our various audiences. We wish to outline a consistent set of colors, logos and symbols to be used across all media, including print, web, video, and any promotional materials used by or representing Howard College.

I. Approved Colors, Logos, and Artwork

This section lists and explains the proper visual style and use of Howard College’s visual identifiers. We outline the proper colors to use, officially rendered and designed logos, including the official college seal, and provide suggested fonts for logos and documents. Though creation of customized symbols is permissible in some cases, there is typically no need to create your own artwork, as most of the work has already been produced for you. Approved color swatches, PDFs, vector, or raster image files of the school’s logos, marks and symbols, as well as fonts typically used are available for download in the Media Relations section of the Howard College website.

If you have questions about proper usage of materials, proper application of color, or need assistance, please contact the Office of Information and Marketing at (432) 264-5034.

A. Colors

This section lists and explains the proper colors and the style in which they should be used for all Howard College and SWCID materials. Pantone colors are provided for professional color matching and should be used if at all possible in the reproduction process. Some suppliers for items such as T-shirts, specialty items and paint don’t reference Pantone colors. Regardless, colors should match the approved selections as closely as possible.

Howard College: The primary colors on all Howard College materials (print, web, video and promotional) should be red, grey, and black, with red and grey being the official school colors, and black being used as a base, outline, or accent color.

All colors below are presented in PMS (Pantone Matching System) for either coated (C) or uncoated (U) stock material. In printer’s language, the official Howard College colors are:

• Red: PMS 1797C or PMS 1797U • Grey: PMS 424C or PMS 424U • Black: PMS Black 2 C 2X

Disclaimer: Color swatches are shown here as examples only. Only professional printers can match PMS colors accurately.

(2)

Other colors may be used in conjunction with the red, grey and/or black as “attention grabbers” in very limited quantities.

SWCID: The primary colors on all SWCID (SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf) materials should be green, yellow, and black with green and yellow being the official colors, and black being used as a base, outline, or accent color.

All colors below are presented in PMS (Pantone Matching System) for either coated (C) or uncoated (U) stock material. In printer’s language, the official SWCID colors are:

• Green: PMS 356C or PMS 355U • Yellow: PMS 109C or PMS 108U • Black: PMS Black 2 C 2X

Disclaimer: Color swatches are shown here as examples only. Only professional printers can match PMS colors accurately.

Other colors may be used in conjunction with the green, yellow and/or black as “attention grabbers” in very limited quantities.

B. Seals and Logos

Howard County Junior College District Seal

The Howard County Junior College (HCJC) district seal (Sample A) is restricted to formal

applications, such as official documents, diplomas, certificates, flags and ceremonial materials. The district seal should never be used in such a manner that it gives the impression that it is the seal of any division, department or entity that is a subset of the college district. It may not be distorted, disassembled, or altered in any way without permission from the college or Department of

Information and Marketing. When at all possible, it should be reproduced in black outline form and should never appear smaller than 1 inch in diameter for the sake of clarity and readability.

Primary Logo Set (Academic)

When a Howard College logo is required for any type of school related print, web, video, and any promotional materials, use the basic octagonal HC logo (Sample C) with or without the additional markups available. Markups are defined as additions, overlays, or color modifications made to the basic octagonal HC logo, and only official markups and styles should be used. Official markups / variations include:

(4)

• “Howard College” above and below the octagonal HC, presented in “Perpetua Titling MT Light” font and set to the width of the HC logo (Sample D).

• For San Angelo, we center and overlay a rounded corner rectangular black shape with “San Angelo” lettering centered horizontally and vertically. The rounded shape should not be so large as to intersect with the outer portions of the H and C in the basic octagonal HC logo for clarity of reading (Sample E).

• For SWCID, we center and overlay a rounded corner rectangular black shape with “SWCID” lettering centered horizontally and vertically. The rounded shape should not be so large as to intersect with the outer portions of H and C in the basic octagonal HC logo for clarity of reading (Sample F).

Sample C Sample D Sample E Sample F

• Color modifications are varied but include the use of vertical color gradients between the official school colors: red, grey, and black for most applications, or green, yellow, and black for SWCID materials as well as applying an outline or stroke to the octagonal HC. Color variations (using official colors) can be explored to best fit the situation most appropriately. For the purpose of visual clarity, variations include, but are not limited to, the examples given below (Sample G)
