WHY BELGIUM?

Belgium is a founding member of the European Union and hosts the EU’s headquarters as well as the offices of other major international organisations. Due to its unique central location in Europe, the capital city, Brussels, is the harbour of major multinational subsidiaries and of European Union Commission and Administration. Its strategic location, its tax regime as well as its low corporate costs and various tax incentives attract international investors, which is why Brussels is often considered as one of the most international business centres.

Its main benefits include:

• Home to EU and many international institutions (NATO, OECD, etc..)

• Belgium is the 5th most productive country in the world

• Central geographical location

BELGIUM TAX SYSTEM

• Global Corporate Income Tax (CIT) rate : 33,99% • Attractive tax regime (Tax Shelter, Companies

Patent Income and Notional Interest, etc…) • Tax Shelter is a tax incentive to encourage

companies to invest in the production of Audiovisual works and films (tax exemption on retained benefits up to 150% of the invested capital is guaranteed).

• Companies Patent Income, subject to certain condition, could be deducted up to 80% from their taxable basis (effective tax rate of 6.8%). • Notional Interest Deduction is a powerful measure

enabling all companies subject to CIT or to Non Resident CIT to deduct from their income a fictive interest calculated on net assets.

• Capital gains realized on shares held for a continuous period of at least 1 year in a company subject to normal tax regime are exempt when realized by SME enterprises. For the other companies (respecting same conditions) a separate tax rate of 0.412% will be applicable. • Dividends-received deduction: 95% of the

amount of dividends received by a Belgian parent company from a subsidiary is deductible under certain conditions (Full ownership of 10% into the distributing company OR having at least an investment value of 2.5 million EUR and maintaining this investment at least one year). • Carry-forward of losses is unlimited in time. • Belgian tax legislation has a system of advance

rulings to give investors legal certainty. Belgium has made the procedure more efficient, simpler and free of charge.

• No capital duty on the shares issued when a company is incorporated or when its share capital is increased.

• Transactions between group members are exempt of VAT.
