Adding iPad Animations to Green Screen Videos: Step 1

Getting Started:

Creating the Backdrop

1. To start a new project:

a. Open the DoInk Green Screen app.

b. Select the “+” symbol on the top right of the screen.

2. To add a static background image from the Camera Roll:

a. Tap the third “+” symbol (the one on the last line near the bottom of the screen). b. Tap the image icon to add a photograph from your Camera Roll.

c. Select an image by tapping on it. If you don’t like it, tap the red “X” and select another.

3. To add a video background image from the Camera Roll:

a. Tap the third “+” symbol (the one on the last line near the bottom of the screen). b. Tap the video icon to add video footage from your Camera Roll.

c. Select a video clip by tapping on it.

d. Select “Use” to drop it into the app. If you don’t like it, tap the red “X” and select another.

4. To add an image or video background from the camera:

a. Tap the third “+” symbol (the one on the last line near the bottom of the screen).

b. Tap the camera icon. Afterward, you should see a yellow bar with the icon on it.

c. Select the word “Image” or “Video,” next to the symbol, based upon your preference. d. Select the red symbol to take the photo or video.

Note: If you are recording a video, you will have an option to preview it or save it to the Camera Roll. If you like it, save it to the Camera Roll in high definition by selecting “Save HD (720p)” and “Done.” If taking a photograph, it will

automatically be saved to your Camera Roll. Once saved, the image or video must now be reinserted as the background.

Optional:

4. To add more than one background image:

a. Position the playhead on the location you want to add an image and select the “+” button.

b. To shift your content over, making room to insert a new background at the start of your clip, tap and hold the center of the clip and drag it to the right.

c. To trim the duration of an image or video clip from its starting point, select the image or clip and then tap and hold the small blue box at the start of the clip and drag it to the right. To trim the duration of a video clip from its ending point, select the clip, then tap and hold the small blue box at the end of the clip and drag it to the left.

EXERCISE 1

1. Use an RETN stock photograph or video (or your own content) to create a backdrop layer that you will build upon.

Capturing Video Using a Green Screen: Adding a Layer

1. To add green screen video to your project:

a. Open the DoInk Green Screen app.

b. Open project by selecting “Projects” and tapping the video you started.

2. Create your second layer.

a. Tap the second “+” symbol (on the middle line near the bottom of the screen).

b. Tap the camera symbol under “Select a Source.” Ensure that the word “Video,” next to the

symbol, has a blue dot in front of it by tapping on it.

c. Have your subject stand in front of a green screen; ensure that the lighting on the screen and your subject is good to prevent shadows.

d. Ensure that the “Chroma Filter” is turned to “On” in order to see what the subject will look like against the background.

e. Record your footage by selecting the red symbol. (You will get a five second warning before recording begins.)

f. Preview your video by selecting the black symbol.

3. Save footage to the Camera Roll.

a. Select .

b. Export your video in high definition by selecting “Save HD (720p).” The green screen video must now be reinserted as the second layer.

c. Tap the second “+” symbol (on the middle line).

d. Choose the camera icon to select from the Camera Roll the video you just saved.

EXERCISE 2

1. Using the image/video you captured in Exercise 1, imagine that you’ve been transported to a new location. 2. Work with a partner to record yourself standing in front of the green screen for 15-30 seconds. Save the clip

Adding an Animated Prop

1. To select an animated prop:

a. Open the DoInk Animation App.

b. Use the “+” symbol on the top right of the screen to select a new project. c. Select “New Composition.”

d. Select the symbol from the top left corner to enlarge the canvas.

e. Select the symbol from the top center to view the props library. f. Select “All Props.”

g. Type a key term into the search bar at the top of the screen to explore the props. h. Preview a prop by selecting the symbol.

i. Tap on the center of a prop to add it to your project.

j. Select the symbol.

k. Change the aspect ratio to 16:9 (for high definition). l. Change the background color to Chroma key green.

2. To change the size and motion path of the prop:

a. Scroll the timeline at the bottom of the screen to view your prop.

b. Scroll the timeline back to the beginning (zero seconds) when you are ready to edit. Note: Select the undo symbol if you make a mistake.

c. Tap the prop to select it; a blue selection box will appear around it. d. Drag on the canvas, next to the prop, to reposition the prop.

e. Drag on the blue corner handles of the selection box to resize or rotate the prop.

f. Drag the green pathing handle (usually a dot in the center of your prop) to choose how the object moves.

h. Click on the if you want to reset the prop to its original state or experiment with other tools. i. Click on “Gallery” when you are ready to export the animation to use in your video.

j. Select the icon and “Share” to add your animation to the Camera Roll.

k. Select “Video” for the media type and “1024 X 768” for the best resolution. Save.

3. To add the prop as a new layer to your video: a. Open the DoInk Green Screen app.

b. Open your project by selecting “Projects” and tapping the video you started. c. Tap the first “+” symbol (the one on the top line).

d. Tap the video icon to add the animation video from your Camera Roll. e. Select a video clip by tapping on it.

f. Select “Use” to drop it into the app. If you don’t like it, click on the red “X.”

g. Preview your video by selecting the symbol.

4. To upload the completed video to your Camera Roll:

a. Tap the icon when you are ready to export your final video. b. Preview your video by selecting the symbol.

c. Select to save the clip to the Camera Roll.

d. Export your video in High Definition by selecting “Save HD (720p).”

EXERCISE 3

1. Add a prop that enhances the meaning of your video.

2. Control the timing of the prop by clicking, holding, and dragging the animation in the top row of the DoInk Green Screen app.
