Migrating an existing software change management environment to another can be both challenging and risky as many have been in place for a large number of years and have been heavily customized and tightly integrated with change processes, debugging and testing tools, etc. Often when companies migrate they end up with a clone of their existing practices, processes and customizations cobbled on top of another vendor’s software change management stack which often times neither operates nor preforms in a desired manner. CA Technologies has added CA Endevor Software Change Manager to our Mainframe Software Rationalization Program (MSRP) set of robust capabilities. MSRP provides a proven methodology designed to decrease the time of migration and overcome the common challenges discussed in the prior section. There is no need to reinvent this process on your own and risk success. We’ve done this many times and we leverage that know-how.

The Mainframe Software Rationalization Program features an experienced staff and a robust suite of mainframe software migration tools:

• Discovery tools. Our software discovery tools are designed to provide transparency. They identify which mainframe vendors’ and homegrown software change management solutions you are running, how often they are being used, where they are installed and potential integration with other vendor tools.

• Analysis tools. Our software analysis tools are designed to provide customers with an additional level of transparency. The analysis tools provide detailed information about how widely deployed the products are today and what product functions are being used and identify customization or integrations. Together, the results of this analysis help us more accurately scope the software migration effort and identify potential risks. The analysis tools scan your configuration libraries and control information to provide the additional level of transparency described above. The analysis also helps us understand the complexity of the migration.

• Migration tools. We offer repeatable migration through our own exclusive BPI Framework that automates the process of migrating your existing software change management solutions to CA Endevor Software Change Manager. MSRP provides the tools to export the components and metadata from your existing software change management solutions and converts them into configuration items and source code to be used by the BPI Framework import facility. Since this process is automated, it doesn’t matter if there are a few or a million items they are all processed automatically and accurately. The converted configuration data and elements are structured and built around industry standards during the conversion so by time they are imported in CA Endevor Software Change Manager they are ready to be tested and deployed
