SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE For those who are free to marry, marriage preparation takes at least six months. Contact a priest for further information.. !. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents expecting the birth of their first and second child must participate in a preparation session, preferably six months prior to birth. . Pray for the children who will be coming forward for the celebration of the sacrament of penance and reconciliation for the first time this Monday night and next Monday night. We are grateful to their teachers and catechists who have been preparing them and assisting their parents who are the first to form their children in the ways of faith. We also thank the priests who come to assist with confessions and the volunteers who prepare dinner for the priests beforehand. If you would like to know more about this VERY important ministry !, contact Sharon at the Dyersville parish office. ! These days people approach confession with much less trepidation. Penitents relate to the priest as a patient to the doctor. Many people choose to celebrate the sacrament facetoface in a conversational manner. Priests take on the role of healer with words of counsel inspired by the Holy Spirit (hopefully!). Children benefit from seeing their parents come to confession and realize we all need God’s grace of conversion and to approach his throne of mercy with humility. Thankfully in our cluster, we have opportunities for confession every day. We need not wait for Advent or Lent. May God have mercy on us and on the whole world.! !. Other Items:! ! Thanks to the generosity of parishioners, businesses, grants, and others living nearby or far away I am pleased to let you know SS. Peter & Paul parish has garnered nearly $1.8 million in pledges and donations! Congratulations! Special thanks to our capital campaign committee, led by Rick and Karen Domeyer. The church roof is nearly finished. Now that temperatures are cooling, we will likely postpone the exterior cleansing and tuck pointing until spring. Work on the steeples will likely unfold then as well. Contributions and pledges are still being accepted!! ! We welcome our confirmation candidates to the 8:30 am Mass today. Session to follow.! ! Women’s brunch at Xavier parish last Saturday had 25 participants. Hoping to have another similar event in January.! ! Recently I celebrated two Quincinera liturgies for Hispanic families. In these gatherings we pray that the young girl who is turning 15 will be chaste and holy. Sr. Paula Schwendinger PVBM, who ministers with Hispanics in our area, is recovering from knee surgery.! ! Archbishop Jackels celebrated the All System Mass at Beckman on Friday. Students from the area Catholic elementary schools joined us at Beckman for this gathering. Fr. Davis celebrated his birthday this week. Fr. Conway has returned to celebrating some Masses in our cluster. Fr. Ries has returned from retreat with continued on pg. 2!.
