Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences (FEAS) has Islamic International Engineering College (IIEC), as a constituent college of the Riphah International University Islamabad.
The College was established to accomplish the mission of the International Islamic Medical College Trust (IIMCT) and to promote quality education in the field of science and technology. It has been offering an accredited Bachelor of Sciences in Electrical Engineering program since its inception in January 1998. The college offers following programs:

• Produce competent engineers with the true spirit of dedication and professional ethics in conformity with the tenets of Islam. • Act as a nursery for the provision of engineers for the developing countries. • Create facilities for postgraduate studies leading to the award of MSc/PhD degrees. Provide cross fertilization of knowledge in advance studies and research amongst students of the engineering and medical faculties.

Dean - FEAS
Col (R) Engr. Muhammad Anwar, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Engineering College Peshawar in 1968 and MSc Degree in Electrical Engineering from UET Lahore in 1989.
In 1969 he got commission in Pak army and was seconded to Abu Dhabi Armed Forces from 1975-79 to impart training in the field of electronics to their officers and technicians. He remained faculty member in electronics wing EME college from 1980-83. He again served as senior instructor in EME college (NUST) from 1989-91. He has undergone training in United States on the Electronic Material Management procedures / techniques.

Riphah Int er national Univ er sityDr. Usman Zabit did his PhD at the Laboratory of Optoelectronics for Embedded Systems, INPT, University of Toulouse, France in 2010. He did his Masters in Optoelectronics from INPT, France in 2006 and completed B.Sc. Electrical Engineering (with Honors) in 2001 from UET Taxila, Pakistan. After his PhD, he was awarded 3 year funding by French National Agency for Research to pursue Post-Doctoral research.
He is the recipient of “Best Ph. D. Thesis Prize 2010” as well as “Leopold Escande Thesis Prize” by INP, Toulouse, France. He has also been awarded “European Mechatronics Award” and “INP Innovation Award” for his research works on Embedded Laser Sensors.
His research has led to International Patents, published in France, 38 European Union Countries and USA.
Electrical Engineering is an integral part of almost every area of our lives, including communications, commerce, entertainment, manufacturing, healthcare, transport, energy and the environment. Electrical Engineers are at the forefront of the challenge to use technology to make things faster, better, cheaper, more sustainable, and to make our lives more productive, healthy and enjoyable.

Riphah Int er national Univ er sityDr. Anwar ul Haq is an internationally known materials scientist. He has served Dr. A.Q. Khan Research Laboratories, Kahuta for 25 years as Director General of various Divisions. He has been Chairman PCSIR for five years. Presently he is Professor of Bio-Materials at Riphah International University, Islamabad.
He has won several national prizes including Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medal (1995), Gold Medal by Pakistan Vacuum Society (1999) and Dr. A.Q. Khan Gold Medal (2000).
He has been awarded three civil awards: Sitara-e-Imtiaz (2001) by Government of Pakistan, President’s award for Pride of Performance (1995) and Tamgha-e-Baqa (2001).
He is Fellow of Pakistan academy of Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Italy. He is on the editorial Board of many national and International Journals. He was member of CIIT Board of Governors. He has been member of many national delegations and represented country in many international meetings.
He has published 80 research papers in various ISI Journals with total impact factor of about 65 and over 350 citations. His current research interest is Brain Computer Interface for rehabilitation.

Engr. Dr. Muhammad Shafique
HoD Biomedical Engineering
Engr. Dr. Muhammad Shafique, Head of Biomedical Engineering was awarded PhD Biomedical Engineering degree in 2011 by City University London. He received his MSc degree in Medical Electronics and Physics from Queen Mary University London in 2006 and B.S degree (received Gold Medal) in Biomedical Engineering from Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology Karachi in 2003.
He worked as a post-doctorate fellow at City University London in 2012 and served as a lecturer at the Electrical Engineering Dept. of Riphah International University, Islamabad from 2003 to 2005. During his PhD at City University London, he worked on novel techniques of photoplethysmography and pulse oximetry. He developed an optical sensor that enhanced the conventional technique of pulse oximetry to work more efficiently on patients suffering from low peripheral blood perfusion. His areas of interests are tissue optics, bio-instrumentation, digital electronics, and biosignal processing.
He is a HEC approved supervisor and won several national and international awards during his academic and professional career. Dr. Shafique has also published and presented his research work in various international impact factor journals and conferences.

Biomedical engineering applies the principles of engineering and design concepts to medicine and biology with the intention of improving the overall healthcare of society. The complex medical technologies is used in the prognosis, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of the sick and injured. With a 10 year job growth of 72% the area is growing exponentially and the demand for biomedical engineers is increasing rapidly.

Minimum credit hours: 30 credit hours (24 Cr. Hr. of course work and 6 Cr. Hr. of thesis).
The candidates are required to get a CGPA of 2.5.
Eligibility Criteria
• Minimum 16 years of formal Education. BS in relevant engineering field with a minimum GPA of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale.
• MSc Physics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Electronics, B.Tech. Honors and other equivalent qualifications.
The MS in Biomedical Engineering program will follow the guidelines laid down by the Higher Education Commission and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). Therefore students with undergraduate Engineering degrees from a PEC approved program will be awarded Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering and the students with non-engineering degrees will be awarded Master of Science in Biomechanics or Master of Science in Biomedical Instrumentation and Signal Processing depending on the specialized stream that they choose.

MS in Electrical Engineering at Riphah International University is a two year (four semesters) 30 credit hours program and requires completion of 24 credit hours of course work and 6 credit hours of thesis. Currently it is offered with the following three concentrations:
• Signal Processing • Navigation and Control • Telecommunication
The course work in these concentrations provides the students with a solid theoretical and practical foundation to embark on research with myriads of applications in academia, industry, defense and healthcare. Each student enrolled in this program must also complete an independent study/thesis on topics related to relevant concentrations as suggested by the faculty member or proposed by external research and development organizations. Flexibility in the program is allowed in order to accommodate the diverse backgrounds, available resources and different abilities of the enrolled students
