Tab 5. CIVIL CITY PROPOSAL UPDATE:
Every year, the Westlake provides a summer camp where they enroll Harvard-Westlake students and students from around the United States by providing scholarships. The project allows teens to spend two days getting to know Holocaust survivors and hearing their stories. Afterwards, the teens break into groups to write, shoot and edit their own public service announcements (PSA) connecting Holocaust stories and themes to contemporary issues of injustice (e.g., bullying). The project seeks out opportunities for participants to submit their PSAs, which is how they became aware of the Commission's competition. The Righteous Conversation Project expressed interest in collaborating with the Commission on future projects. Administrator Latta updated the Commission on the Righteous Conversations Project, which is supported by grants from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles. Two of the Bullying Prevention video winners were from the Righteous Conversations.
It was agreed that Woofstock was not the place to promote future projects of the Commission.
