Open Enrollment is the time of year to check your current Medicare ad-vantage plan or prescription drug plan coverage and compare it to other plans on the market. Even if your current policy seems to work for you, it is a good idea to check out what’s new. The only way to make sure that your Medicare insurance continues to match your health care needs, is to compare your current plan to other plans that are offered by your cur-rent insurance company or other health care providers in your area. The Medicare Open Enrollment period for Medicare Advantage plans (Part C ) and Prescription Drug Coverage Plans is from October 15th through December 7, 2013. The Cupcake Truck comes to Lafayette!
“It was a fun afternoon for everyone who came out.”
On August 14th, residents from Healthcare, Personal Care, and the Independent
apartments lined up in the parking lot for a delicious cupcake from the Butter Cream Cupcake Lady! For her special project during her internship in the Healthcare Recrea-tion department, Temple University student Melissa Van Wert contacted the cupcake truck to come to Lafayette for a special event for the residents. The truck waived its ini-tial fee to come for the event, and after two successful bake sales to raise money, each resident was able to have one cupcake paid for by Holy Redeemer! The residents enjoyed the beautiful summer weather outside eating their tasty treats. It was a fun afternoon for everyone who came out and a new and unique event brought here to Lafayette!
Summer Carnival
The Residents of Parkview and Woodview celebrated the end of summer with a carnival in the Parkview Dining Room! First, residents enjoyed tasty carnival treats like corn-dogs, soft pretzels, funnel cake, and ice cream cones! Then they participated in some tra-ditional carnival games like ring toss, basketball throw, bean bag toss, and “sink the ball.” The afternoon ended with a Wii carnival games competition; residents competed in events like the hi-striker, knock over the milk bottles, and ski ball. The residents of La-fayette enjoyed celebrating the end of a fantastic summer!
Pastoral Care Corner
Sister Barbara’s last ‘official day’ was August 15th. She began the pastoral Care Department at Holy Redeemer St. Joseph Manor, Holy Redeemer Lafayette, Holy Redeemer Village and Holy Redeemer Hospital over 33 years ago. As she says, “This is my family!” With deep gratitude we thank her for her vision, min-istry, generous and compassionate spirit, kindness, honesty, integrity, courage, love, humor, and above all the sharing of her heart. Personally, she has been my mentor, coworker, and ‘buddy’ over the years I served with her. She is not gone and definitely not retired. Sr. Barbara will continue her mission as a Sister of the Holy Redeemer as she journeys with God to ‘care, comfort, and heal’ at Holy Re-deemer. Let us pray for her and the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer as each one of us are invited to continue their mission.
God’s blessings, our gratitude, and love to Sr. Barbara Sr. Diane McManus, SSJ-Pastoral Care Coordinator-LifeCare

SAFETY REMINDER: Safety is our highest priority in all our activities
and events at Holy Redeemer Lafayette. We desire to offer as many seats as pos-sible to the residents and patients living here –this is their community and we need to respect their presence. If we are overcrowded it may present a safety hazard to those participating. When participating in religious services at Holy Redeemer Lafayette/RCR, please abide by the procedure for seating. Also, you may listen to the Mass in the main Lobby area. Be sure there is adequate space between wheelchairs so that the Ministers of Holy Communion or priest can bring the Eucharist to you. Holy Communion will be offered to those in the RCR
and Lobby. The safety of our residents, patients, visitors, and staff are
of the utmost importance to us at Lafayette. Thanks you for your co-operation!
