Big Data Analytics and Data Science
MASTERCLASS LEADER Dr. satyam Priyadarshy, Chief Data Scientist at Halliburton’s Landmark PSL in Texas, USA
In this workshop, a clear definition of Big Data, Data Analytics, Big Data Analytics and Data Science will be presented. The concept of Data Science and its relevance of Big Data will be discussed. The four enablers of Big Data to create actionable insights are – Data, Technologies, Big Data Analytics and Visualization.
A 7-step process to create meaningful big data analytics, based on pattern-based strategy, will next be presented – helping you understand the steps necessary to think like a data scientist. This process will be demonstrated through a use case about techniques for pattern recognition – data discovery, machine learning algorithms, heat maps, correlations, outliers and visualizations.
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will:
• UnDeRsTAnD the context of data analytics, big data
analytics, and data science
• GAIn full understanding of the simple 7-step process
that they can apply to complex problems in their domain
• UnDeRsTAnD the various tools and techniques
available for complex data sets
• Be ABle to use simple tools and technologies to go
through the complete data analytics pipeline
• DeVeloP THe ABIlITY to speak intelligently about Big
Data Analytics and Data Science across their own and other organizations
Participating delegates will include:
• eXeCUTIVes with a strong interest in big data
analytics who are seeking either a career transition or career advancement
• PRoFessIonAls who are currently working with large
data sets, complex data management etc. and who seek to broaden their knowledge

• executives trying to ‘make sense of their census’ • Professionals with strong interest in data analytics
and acquiring real data insights
• Recommended Reading: A list of reference materials will be provided
• Free Trial Software: Participants will be provided with Python, R, Weka and Excel to analyze test data sets • Laptops / Notebooks: Participants should bring
laptops to the session
• Wifi: Wifi is available at the workshop location • Data: Sample data sets will be provided

In the hands-on section, delegates will
• become familiar with tools like Python, R, Weka and Excel • use these tools to experience various algorithms needed
to analyze the test data sets that will be provided • gain robust experience with statistical methods, regression techniques, correlation, dimensionality reductions, and simple-to-interpret visualizations.
How does one leverage these enablers, in order to create value for the business?

Big Data Analytics and Data Visualization Workshop
MASTERCLASS LEADER Dr. Mouwafac sidaoui, Professor & Chairman of Business Analytics and Information
Systems at the School of Management, University of San Francisco USA
This workshop will focus on teaching how combining existing and new sources of data with advanced analytics can power new business opportunities.
It offers an introduction to the principles and techniques for data visualization: that is to say, graphical depictions of data that can improve comprehension, communication, and decision making. Participants will learn many techniques, with a how-to guide that shows them how to leverage Big Data to drive business value.
In this workshop, participants will learn visual representation methods and techniques that increase their – and (later) their own audiences’ – understanding of complex data and models. Emphasis will be placed on the identification of patterns, trends and differences from data sets across categories, space, and time using Tableau and Google Charts. Another key element of this workshop will be how it enables participants to generate business insights: interpreting analytical results in terms of a larger context, identifying and prioritize issues – and cogently articulating them.
Participating delegates will include:
• MAnAGeRs primarily engaged with data and
communicating their data, findings, and analysis – in either a small or large federal government agency, think tank, university or private firm
• PRoFessIonAls using either small data sets with few
observations or large, complex data sets
• DeCIsIon-MAKeRs with a desire to improve how they
visualize their data and analysis
Beneficiaries from this program will include:
• Marketing, finance and sales managers and executives • Business analysts and reporting professionals
• Business leaders who work with data quantities locally
and globally
• executives trying to ‘make sense of their census’ • Professionals with strong interest in data analytics and
acquiring real data insights
• Recommended Textbook: Tableau Your Data!; By Dan Murray • Free Trial Software: Participants will be provided with
information on how to download and install Tableau prior to the class
• Laptops / Notebooks: Participants should bring laptops to the session
• Wifi: Wifi is available at the workshop location
• Data: Participants will be provided with data sets and graphic files via email prior to the class
