APRO VOCATIONAL

TRAINING

DESCRIPTION

T

he school was founded in 1958 by Monsignor Gian Battista Gianolio as a vocational school for young people,

with the purpose of, through social and professional studies,

responding to the needs of the companies in the area.

Later, the school was run by the Piedmont Region, until 1998 when APRO, a Consort Society, took over the management. APRO is made up of local authorities such as the municipality of Alba, the most renowned companies in the area like Ferrero

S.p.a. and Miroglio Group S.p.A., a selection of other companies and all the professional associations in the

area of the town of Alba. Besides the school in Alba, a second one was opened in the town of Canelli, in

he objective of Apro is to respond to the demands of the area concentrating on professional and vocational needs of the companies, preparing youth for the world of employment and

providing refresher courses for those who are already employed.

T

herefore the Consort Society

main objectives are the construction

of a common organization for definition and the development of activities of professional learning.

ther main tasks of the school are: school-work guidance, reinsertion into the world of employment, studies and research regarding

ACTIVITY AREAS

Compulsory Education Training addressed

to Junior High School Graduates

A

PRO is well known in the professional training area aimed at young people. At the present 600 students are attending the school in 5 sectors: technical engineering, electrical, hotel, hairdressing and clothing.

W

hen the students begin attending, they are 14 years old and they are taught by professionals. They continue their training through work experience in companies, by studying with active and cross-disciplinary didactic methods and using laboratories with the most modern technologies.

T

he courses last three years and at the end of the school period, the students get a professional qualification (Professional compulsory

education) and they can begin working.

A

PRO courses are ideal for students who have a natural bent for practical studies, for those who want to start a job, for students who have practical intelligence and for those who want to become small entrepreneurs. The best students

become well paid professionals.

A

pro also offers courses integrated with the Institutes of lower and upper Secondary Education.

Labour Market – Focused training for those looking for e mployment following the compulsory school period

A

PRO’s objective is to prepare the students, once they have finished their compulsory education, with specialised courses that lead to an ideal connection between high school or university and the real work world

T

he courses are organised for qualified high school or university graduates who are ready to start a vocation.

T

hese courses give to young people, for whom it is not always easy to find a gratifying

job after the end of the school, the concrete

chance to enter in the labour market as professionals in the following fields: tourism,

fashion, commerce, culinary art, social and health care assistance,

computer science and many others.

Labour Market – Training for Immigrants

T

he courses at Apro represent, since many years, a consolidated solution to assure a better social integration of immigrants as well as a concrete support to facilitate their access to the labour market.

Labour Market – Training for the Disabled

A

PRO organises personalized courses for disabled students. The courses are planned and conducted by qualified teachers with great

experience in the sector. The students receive a real support for their integration in the workforce.

Labour Market – Training for Unemployed Adults

A

PRO offers courses that represent ideal and efficient solutions for the entrance or re-entrance of unemployed adults into the workforce.

ACTIVITY AREAS

Individual Lifelong Learning

Training aimed at employed students

A

PRO offers the possibility of enrolment to Lifelong Learning courses to employed people according to individual needs. They can enrol throughout the year. The vocational courses are financed 80% by the Province and are held in the evenings.

A

ll the courses, which are numerous and vary widely,

include: language courses, computer science, tourism and

cuisine, business management, creativity and communication, business administration management.

T

he courses are, in particular, aimed at employed people, therefore they are extremely convenient and interesting, not only because they are useful for their jobs, but also and above all, because they deal with current subjects both on a personal level and on a modern level with facts, not necessarily relating to

Apprenticeship

Training addressed to workers with

apprenti-ceship contract

A

PRO offers vocational courses aimed at young people already employed with an apprenticeship contract, according to the law, with theoretical and practical subject matter, in collaboration with the provinces of Cuneo and Asti.

Enterprise Training

A

t Apro, you can find rich catalogues which offer financed training for all professional levels with the possibility of planning and creating high quality courses. Apro seeks the most ideal financial instruments to be able to achieve training courses that companies need to organize. In addition to this, depending on the type of course, the students, the duration, and the course period, Apro prepares the training project and presents it to the competent offices for financing. In the case of positive feedback, it accompanies and follows the company in its development of training activity and in its final report of this training period.

ACTIVITY AREAS

Guidance Activities

A

PRO organizes and manages guidance training and information activities for young students in compulsory education and training, as well as for apprentices, post-diploma courses and unemployed people.

A

pro carries out Individual Support and Larsa to permit the passage of the students

among different schools or levels of education, in particular between the Institutes and the

Training Agency; it also offers vocational guidance

activities for students completing their last year of junior high school (lower secondary school).

T

he guidance operators and trainers support and follow the students in their whole training career, from the entrance in school to the insertion in the

labour market.

A

pro is also an accredited work centre (SaL) in the provinces of Cuneo and Asti.

PRO has 2 training schools in Alba and Canelli, employing 100 members of staff and 400 professionals. The Institute of Alba is specialized in the following sectors: mechanics, welding and carpentry, computer science, eletrotechnics, clothing and fashion, tourism and culinary art, hairstyling and beauty, commerce and service activities, health and human services, marketing and communication, administration and business management, design and graphics, environmental protection, safety, ecomanagement and foreign languages.

he Institute of Canelli is specialized in the following sectors: mechanics, welding and carpentry, computer science, electrical, foreign languages, hairstyling and beauty.

DIDACTIC METHODOLOGY

T

o define the vocational training process, the courses are divided in modules. The modules are organised in theory lessons and hands-on practice in the laboratories.

T

he students acquire the technical skills directly with a professional experience, carried out in the

centres’ laboratories, using the machines

provided by the enterprises.

Every year APRO develops new teaching methods to improve the quality of training and to facilitate student learning. The following methods are being currently used:

TRAINING and MOBILITY in EUROPE

A

PRO Formazione is the point of reference for the territory in Europe. Since 2009, APRO collaborates with European partners on mobility projects, partnerships , development and transfer of innovation in the education field. The projects are aimed at students, adults, trainers and organizations of our territory. APRO actively works to achieve the objectives of

the Europe 2020 strategy of the European Commission. The European Network of APRO covers 13 Countries with more than 40 partners,

including schools, vocational training agencies, Universities, private companies, Institutions and public authorities.

MOBILITIES

APRO send and host students/apprentices, adults, trainers in many vocational sectors since 1999.

VET Learners

A

PRO coordinate mobility projects for students in compulsory education and apprentices at regional level. The projects include the recognition of training and practice credits. The objective of our mobility activities is to obtain the international recognition of our qualifications, working in accordance with the ECVET requirements.

Youth & Adults

A

PRO coordinate mobility projects for people available in the labour market at national level. The beneficiaries of our mobility projects are: young people over 18 who finished the training/educational career; workers of local enterprises; people available in the labour

market (mobile workers, unemployed).

VET Staff

A

PRO works in the VETPRO programme to foster the skills of the trainers who work with the following categories of beneficiaries: students in compulsory education, apprentices, employed and unemployed, elderly people, foreign people.
