Course Guide

How you’re assessed

You’ll be asked to apply your knowledge and demonstrate your skills for each unit of competency in your course. As such, your assessments are based on a combination of written exercises and practical tasks designed to keep you engaged and motivated.

While you’ll be able to do most assessments on your own, some may require you to work as part of a group or with colleagues in your workplace.

Here are some examples of the type of assessment to expect:

• Making video and audio recordings that demonstrates your ability to: o conduct team meetings and provide customer service

o interact with customers o present a report o make a presentation • Preparing written documents

o Write a report on [a topic] based in your workplace or other business environment o Create a training plan for your organisation for the CEO’s approval

• Answering questions online

o List three factors to consider when implementing your organisation’s health and safety policy o What are the key characteristics of a marketing plan?

And remember, all your assessments are easily submitted online. No need to print, scan or mail anything!

How many assessments are there?

A course has an average of 10 units, with several assessments in each unit.

Some assessments are quite straightforward and some are more involved. All assessments are designed to help you demonstrate your understanding progressively as you go through each unit.

How are assessments marked?

For each unit of competency, you’ll be marked ’Competent’ if you’ve demonstrated competence against all the performance criteria or ’Not yet competent’ if you haven’t.

Your Competent result is in turn made up of the results of the assessments that make up that unit. You’ll need to be marked ‘Satisfactory’ for each assessment in the unit to get an overall result of Competent.

To receive your full qualification, you must get marked Competent for all units.

When do I get my results?

Your trainer will post your results, with their comments, within three to five business days.

Yes, that’s the beauty of studying online.

If you prefer a little more structure or are motivated by deadlines, you can choose to do the course within set time frames. You can still go to your online classroom whenever you want, but you’ll have set due dates for completing your study and submitting assessments.

How much time will I need to study each week?

It’ll take somewhere between 4 and 20 hours a week, depending on which way you choose to study your course and how efficiently you complete the learning material and assessments.

To give you an idea, it’ll take approximately:

 4-5 hours a week if you do it over 2 years

 15-20 hours a week if you do it over 6 months

Or, you can do anything in between - even change your weekly workload along the way to suit other commitments!

Can I get RPL/credit for my other studies and work experience?

Yes - if you’ve already done some of the units in this course, or have relevant work or life experience, you might be eligible for credit.

This process is called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and, if you’re eligible, it means you won’t need to do as many units to complete your course.

You need to be enrolled to apply for RPL, but if you want to see whether you may fit the bill, take a look at the RPL Assessment Kit on our website.

What do I get when I finish?

Once you’ve successfully completed your assessments and gained a competent mark for all your units, you'll be awarded your official qualification and receive a transcript detailing the units of competency you achieved.

And you should feel very proud of yourself.
