During the Advent season as we prepare for the celebration of Christmas, it is easy to get so caught up in the preparations and festivities that we forget to take time to reflect and give thanks. We would like to take this opportunity to give thanks:
To the students of St. John Paul II for their warmth and enthusiasm;
To the staff of St. John Paul II for their hard work, dedication and sharing their talents;
To the parents and guardians for their support and generosity;
And to our Parent Volunteers who support student learning and school activities. Sincerely,
F. Troiani L. Rosero

Advent Prayer
To share our humanity and transform our lives
You came among us, Lord Jesus.
Enlighten our minds to the fullness of Your spirit
and open our hearts to the fullness of Your love
that we may spend these weeks of preparation
thinking about what Your coming among us truly means
and the mystery of Your love for us.

VIRTUE OF HOPE
God helps us to work for a more peaceful world even when we feel discouraged. Let us pray for the grace and courage to be people of Hope –
Christmas Vacation
Just a reminder that the last day of school in December will be Friday, December 18, 2020. The first day of school in the New Year will be Monday, January 4, 2021.
Extended French Information Meeting
As a parent/guardian of a child in a Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) Year 2 Kindergarten classroom, you may wish to consider the French Immersion program as a possibility for Grade 1 in September 2021. Parents/Guardians are invited to attend a virtual information session to learn more about the Grade 1 French Immersion Program and the application process. DPCDSB presently offers the French Immersion program at various schools that are listed below in the Parent Information Letter. All parent information sessions will be held virtually this year via the Zoom Meeting platform. Please select one of the three information sessions to attend. We recommend you attend the session that best represents the region of your interest. School Region Session.
Catholic School Parent Council
Thank you to our Catholic School Parent Council who have generously donated Christmas Ornaments from Crock-A-Doodle for our students to personally decorate and take home for the holidays. We genuinely appreciate the continued support for our students at St. John Paul II!
Lost and Found
Our lost and found box is full. Please ensure that you label all clothing and that your child checks the box periodically.
Students are encouraged to peruse the Lost and Found and reclaim any lost items the week before Christmas Holidays.
Dismissal and Planning Ahead
As we move along in the school year, there have been a great number of calls to the school for students about last minute instructions from home. Please try to plan ahead, and/or have a backup plan with your children to avoid last minute calls and confusion. This may lead to placing students in unsafe situations. Please help us keep school lines open for
emergencies and usage for the daily activities of the school. Please remember that with over 600 students in the school, last minute changes are not always easy to facilitate. If there is a change in the dismissal procedure for your child, please send a note in with your child.
Cold and Flu Season
We would like to remind parents of the need to have a network of support to care for children especially in case of
midday illness. As we go through this difficult time when everyone is anxious about the spread of germs please note that Peel Health repeatedly recommends that the best practice to prevent the spread of viruses is:
• Wash hands with soap and water thoroughly and often
• To cough or sneeze into a sleeve or tissue • Stay home if you are sick
• When children become sick during the course of the school day, a plan needs to be in place to care for him/her. As with all medical issues, we continue to take direction from Peel Health on how to best respond to community illness.
Supervision
Once again, we remind you that supervision is provided only fifteen minutes before the 8:30 a.m. bell. Students should not be arriving at school before supervisors get to the yard. For the safety of your children, please ensure that they
are not left at the school prior to 8:15 a.m. supervision.
In addition, we also remind you of the importance of students arriving
on time. There has been a significant reduction in the number of students arriving late and we are grateful for everyone’s efforts to reinforce this important skill of preparing in advance and managing time effectively to ensure punctual arrival. Winter
Conditions Except under
medical circumstances, which must be prearranged through the office, students will go outside for Outdoor Learning and Lunch times. Research indicates that fresh air helps students to refocus on their studies. Please keep your child home if he or she
is not well enough to be outdoors. The Board, with advice from the Peel Public Health Department, has established the policy that states all children will be kept indoors when the temperature outside reaches -25 degrees Celsius (including the wind-chill factor). We will monitor weather conditions daily and make decisions based upon our local conditions. Kiss n’ Ride
At pick up time we are asking our school community to be mindful and supportive by leaving the school parking lot and kiss n’ ride spaces for those picking up that have small children in the vehicle, as well as those physical disabled and the elderly. Those that are capable of parking on the street should do so and walk over. Not only will this help reduce traffic and improper parking in the area, it will improve the safety in the lot as well. Please consider the needs of others in order to ensure the parking lot is as safe as possible for our students.
Walkways
IMPORTANT:
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are reminded to not walk through the opening at the back of the school onto Kingsview Drive. Please use the sidewalks at the intersection of Bolton Heights and Kingsview Drive to access this area. Please observe the metal gate and pylons in this area of the school property at all times.
We would like to inform you that St. John Paul II continues to participate in ‘We Share the Air’, A Scent Sensitivity Awareness Campaign. There are students in attendance who suffer from
life-threatening asthmatic conditions to air pollutants. Exposure even to minimal odours may cause potential life-threatening reactions.
Very common severe triggers are: perfume, cologne, scented products and personal care products (such as hairspray). These products may cause severe reactions for students. The safety and well-being of all our students is a priority.
In order to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we request that our school community refrain from wearing scented personal products complying with our Scent Free Zone Campaign at school and all school events. Please ensure that all caregivers are also aware of our awareness
campaign. If you have any questions, please talk to your child’s teacher or contact the office.
We appreciate your cooperation in supporting a safe learning environment for all students.
