IP Telephony in the Enterprise Network

(2)

When is your voice service more than just a phone call? When it is made from your PC with a click of the mouse. When it is accompanied by video that actually shows that amazing new product you are pitching. When it is made to a sales office in Tucson, and answered by your sales rep, on the road in Chicago. Voice over IP is, in the most basic definition,

the digital delivery of voice services over an IP network. But VoIP’s powerful capabilities make it far more than a cheap way to route phone calls. The real excitement of VoIP is the change it brings in how you do business, and in the dramatic productivity gains that VoIP convergence brings. Making a call is just the starting point.

Allied Telesyn’s VoIP solution combines the Sphericall voice management system and desktop interface, from partner Sphere, with our own Intelligent Networking products. The result is a solution that combines Sphere’s VoIP innovation with the intelligence and value

derived from Allied Telesyn’s two decades of IP experience. Conforming to all industry-standard VoIP protocols, Allied Telesyn VoIP is capable of scaling up to 20,000+ end points, lets you customize applications for any environment, and allows partial or hybrid deployment—putting Intelligent IP telephony where it offers the most benefit and the best long-term ROI. The Allied Telesyn VoIP Solution goes a step further in terms of delivering advanced services and user control. In addition to traditional IP handsets and analog phones, a simple program (GUI) on each PC lets users access advanced calling features

powers advanced user-to-user tools such as desk-to-desk video, text messaging, and the ability to see, at a glance, which co-workers are currently in their office and available to take a call. These VoIP solutions reduce overhead and capitalize on a geographically diverse labor force by enabling virtual offices and

mini-call centers among teleworkers or branch offices. Intelligent IP Telephony is also a key tool for building long-lasting competitive advantages, as VoIP multimedia tools improve customer service and streamline peer-to-peer communication. The Allied Telesyn VoIP solution has been designed with a breadth of switching, routing, and voice gateway products to meet the needs of large and small organizations, alike. All our products are engineered to provide 99.999% availability and Allied Telesyn VoIP uses QoS features like DiffServ and CoS to improve routing and aid WAN performance. For core switching and non-blocking performance, the SB4000 series chassis provides redundant management and power modules and all switches support redundant links/routes and protocols like rapid spanning tree (RSTP) and virtual router redundancy protocol (VRRP), ensuring that your mission-critical systems remain available. Allied Telesyn’s IEEE 802.3af PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches supply power through switch ports and do not take up any more rack space then a standard switch. With high-performance and simple deployment, Allied Telesyn’s VoIP Solution delivers dramatic cost-savings over competitive and legacy systems. And with exponential productivity gains and

The Sphericall Desktop is the graphical user interface of the VoIP system. It provides call control, advanced telephony and video and system management, all at the click of a mouse. Each desktop communicates back to the Sphericall Manager in a central server. The brain of the VoIP system, the Spherical Manager can support up to 22,000+ phones at once.

Benefits

High Availability

Any outage that can result in loss of voice services must be minimized to at least .001% probability. There is no over-stressing the importance of keeping voice systems available. And availability of other everyday services can be just as important to smooth day-to-day operation and user satisfaction. Applications like IP surveillance cameras, email, data, and video multicasting all benefit from a more available central network. Allied Telesyn’s intelligent network for IP telephony makes 24/7/365 availability a top priority with a feature set that maximizes uptime and emphasizes redundancy in the event of a primary system failure. Key availability features include:

Complete E911 & Emergency Features, Layer 3 Intelligence, Link Aggregation Redundancy,Trigger Facility and Hardware Redundancy

Security

Keeping your voice communications safe from the same threats that can impact your data network is a key consideration when making the choice to implement a VoIP solution. In a world plagued with hackers, identity theft and espionage, security is a more critical issue than ever before. Organizations must be highly sensitive to issues of safety and privacy, and security breaches can be damaging. The Allied Telesyn intelligent network for IP telephony helps to minimize these risks by providing the following security features:

Stateful Inspection Firewall, Encryption,VPNs, IP Filtering, and User Authentication

Performance

Network congestion is the bane of good service in a converged network. On every level of voice networking, performance is a vital part of the IP telephony end user experience. The Allied Telesyn intelligent network not only helps to keep applications running smoothly and quickly, but it lets you prioritize which applications are the most important, in peak times. Here are some of the ways we manage it:

QoS, Non-blocking Architecture, Multicasting, and Rate Management
