Readfield Roads Posted to Limit Heavy Loads

All roads in the Town of Readfield have been posted with spring weight limits. Travel on posted roads by overweight vehicles is only permitted when the road is solidly frozen, or by special permit from the Road Com-missioner. The Road Commissioner may be contacted in the office at 685-4939 or by cell phone at 242-5437. Thank you for respecting the posted weight limits and maintaining the integrity of our road network.

All property taxes are due by June 30, 2019. Because this is a Sunday, the last

day to pay at town hall is Friday, June 28th. You may also mail in your

pay-ment as long as it is postmarked by 6/30/19.

If you are in tax club, the last payment is due no later than June 30th.

If you would like to sign up for tax club for the upcoming year, all taxes must be

paid in full.

Tax club is a twelve-payment plan from July to June. A coupon booklet will be

provided.

Interest is not charged unless more than 60 days have lapsed between

pay-ments.

Advance payments are accepted.

Readfield Cemeteries ready for Spring clean-up

The Readfield Sexton has started spring clean-up and is asking for your help. If you have a loved one at one of the cemeteries and have left items through the winter on their lot please go by and pick-up any items you would like to keep. The Sexton may throw out any items that are faded, worn or not seasonally appropriate. Mount Vernon Food Bank

Mount Vernon Food Bank

People in Readfield who find they are in need at any time during the year do not have to go hungry. The Mt. Vernon Food Bank, located at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, serves the people of Readfield in addition to Vienna, Fayette and Mt. Vernon. It is open every Saturday morning from 9:30am to 11:30am and is supported by the schools, churches and individuals from the area.

Those who are not in need of the food service can become supporters of the Food Bank with tax-deductible checks made payable to the Mt. Vernon Food Bank.

If you are in need of help during off hours, please call: Betty White at 480-1525 or Helen Wilkey at 293-2351.

Rec sports update:

Baseball, softball and T-ball seasons are in full swing! Stop over to Keene Memorial field

on Church Rd or Readfield Elementary on South Rd during the week and on Saturdays

when you see a game going!! Cheer on our local teams. We have fielded teams at all

lev-els with other towns combining at some levlev-els to get the numbers and allow everyone to

play! We appreciate DR Designs in Manchester making us look good with our uniforms

as well!

Fall Soccer sign ups will go home at the end of the school year in your child's

back-pack. We will announce here and on the Readfield Recreation Facebook page when

those sign ups need to be handed in. Other Summer Activities with Rec are in the

plan-ning stages!! Stay tuned and definitely find us on Facebook if you want to always know

what is going on!!

The Senior Cafe get-togethers are for seniors, retirees or anyone 50 and over. Coffee, tea and muffins are pro-vided. The center has special presenta-tions, discussions, learning activities, socializing, games and crafts. PHOTO CAPTION: Four men who served as Governors of Maine called Readfield their home. Dr. John Hub-bard (1850-1853); Jonathan Huntoon (1832-1834); and brothers Anson P. Morrill (1855-1856) and Lot M. Morrill (1858-1861). Hubbard is the only one who was born in Readfield and Huntoon is the only one buried here, in Readfield Corner Cemetery.
