Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract – Based on UK Theatre / BECTU Agreement
Duration: Full-time fixed term contract, starting November 2021 until end June 2022
Fixed term contract dates are dependent on production and production schedule (dates subject to change and subject to the Producer’s right to give not less than two weeks’ notice of closure of the production)
Hours: A maximum average of 48 hours per week, normally worked over 6 days with one day off per week. This agreement will include Sunday working and Sunday travel
Salary: £750 per week, inclusive of overtime and other incidental payments. Premium payment for worked Bank Holidays.
Responsible to: Company Stage Manager and General Manager
Responsible for: LX No. 2
Subsistence: Paid in accordance with the UK Theatre/Equity Commercial Theatre Agreement

Back by popular demand the Olivier and Tony Award®-winning production of The Curious Incident of
the Dog in the Night-Time will be touring the UK and Ireland this autumn, marking ten years of the
production which originated at the National Theatre.
Since 2012, Curious Incident has been seen by more than five million people worldwide, including two UK tours, two West End runs, a Broadway transfer, a specially adapted schools tour which has visited more than 100 schools around the UK and was seen by over 12,000 young people, a National Theatre Live cinema broadcast, and tours to the Netherlands, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Australia and 30 cities across the USA.

Duties and Responsibilities
— To work with the Production Manager, Production Video Engineer, Production Electrician and LX Team to
co-ordinate the hire and preparation of equipment and venue supplies, in tech and throughout the tour.
— To work with the Production Manager, Production Electrician and LX Team to run the LX fit-ups and
get-outs, managing local crew and taking responsibility for dealing with the video elements of the production.
— To manage LX and video checks and ensure the smooth running of the show.
— To be responsible for supervising and scheduling staff within the LX department and ensuring that the
training of staff is carried out as set out in job specifications.
— To be primarily responsible for operating the lighting board, and teaching the board to members of the LX
department when required.
— To be responsible for video and LX maintenance.
— To run any on-stage cues if required during performances and to manage local crew where necessary.
— To assist in the recruitment of staff if required.
— To be an active member of the touring team, creating and upholding a positive ethos on tour,
working to support and assist staff in other departments where necessary and providing support and assistance for the get-ins and get-outs.
— To attend production meetings and technical and dress rehearsals to ensure awareness of the LX
requirements, and any resulting changes.
— To uphold the high production standards expected for a first-class play, and the high artistic quality required
by the Lighting Designer, Video Designer and Associate Lighting and Video Designers.
— To be responsible for all systems and paperwork in the department including timesheets for all members of
the LX team, weekly schedules in consultation with the CSM, and petty cash.
— To carry out all other duties normally associated with the role of Chief LX on a tour of a first-class play.
— To comply with the various policies of the Producer and each touring venue on Social Media, Equal
Opportunities, Harassment, Smoking, Alcohol, Drugs and Health and Safety.
Person Specification
Essential
— Extensive operational LX experience and excellent technical skills.
— Previous large scale touring experience essential.
— Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation including LOLER, risk assessment and working at height.
— Flexible and self-motivated with the ability to work well with actors, musicians and other theatre staff.
— A calm and practical approach to technical trouble-shooting.
— Ability to work under pressure.
— Ability to lead and organise staff.
