COMPETITOR INFORMATION

The Hamilton Eisteddfod will not be held in its usual format this year, however a 2-day Piano & Strings Event will be held in August 2021.

Please note that arrangements for this event do not follow the standard Hamilton Eisteddfod format. This document describes the modified event, including the Competitor Conditions which apply.

All competitors in this event are required to read this document prior to entering the competition.

Entries open at 9:00am on Monday 19th July 2021.

Entries close at midnight on Thursday 29th July 2021.

PIANO & STRINGS EVENT 2021: OVERVIEW

The Hamilton Eisteddfod will hold a 2-day piano and strings event in August 2021 at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre (PAC). Competitors are able to enter selected piano and string sections.

Adjudicator: Mr Stefan Cassomenos

Pianist-composer Stefan Cassomenos is one of Australia’s most vibrant and versatile musicians. As recipient of the Second Prize in the International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn 2013, Cassomenos has performed throughout Europe and Asia, and has performed concertos with orchestras in Australia and overseas. Cassomenos’ ensemble PLEXUS has commissioned and premiered over 110 works, and his own compositions are regularly performed throughout Australia. Cassomenos is co-Artistic Director of Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, with Monica Curro.

All competition will be held on stage at the Hamilton PAC.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE

Time Limits: Unless otherwise stated, all time limits will be 4 minutes.

Please read the Competitor Conditions for further requirements.

PIANOFORTE SECTIONS

1. Piano Solo - Special Section

Open to all students with no more than 18 months’ tuition on any instrument including piano.

Competitors must submit a signed statement from their teacher to this effect at time of registration.

COMPETITOR CONDITIONS

COVIDSafe EVENT:

This event will be held in line with Victorian Government COVID-19 guidelines and requirements. All attendees will be required to check-in using the mandatory QR Code Service for contact tracing, and follow all other COVID-19 regulations.

ENTRIES:

1. Entries open at 9:00am on Monday 19th July 2021.

Entries close at midnight on Thursday 29th July 2021.

Entries must be submitted on the STARDOM online competition system by the closing date.

2. The entrant’s age on the 1st of January of the current year shall be deemed the age of the entrant.

3. For Education schools, a tax invoice is generated upon entry and payment is to be made within 30 days. Ensure that you provide an official school email address when entering (not an individual teacher’s email address).

4. Fees are payable to the City of Hamilton Eisteddfod. Competitors are not entitled to any refund of fees unless the event is cancelled by the Hamilton Eisteddfod at which time the Committee will issue refunds for all competitors, minus a $5 administration fee.

5. The Hamilton Eisteddfod cannot be responsible for entries lost through failed electronic transmission, or entries submitted incorrectly via the STARDOM online competition system. No entry will be accepted unless processed online with full payment.

6. Responsibility for correct entry rests with the entrant. A confirmation email will be sent to the competitor and it is their responsibility to confirm all the details of the entry are correct.

7. Dates, session times and running sheets will be available on the Hamilton

Eisteddfod website (www.hamiltoneisteddfod.org.au) once the program is finalised.

8. There will be an option to purchase tickets at the time of entry on STARDOM.

Tickets will cost $8 for a single session, or $20 for a 1-day ticket.

9. Late entries will not be accepted for the 2021 competition. Entries must be received before the advertised closing date and time.

MUSIC CONDITIONS:

10. Competition sections are outlined in the Schedule above, and will also be published in STARDOM after entries open.

11. Competitors must report to the Registration Desk (located in the front foyer) prior to the start of each session in which they will compete (e.g. morning session,

afternoon session or evening session).

be 4 minutes.

13. The following prize money will be available for each section:

First: $15 Second: $5

Adjudication crit sheets will be available.

14. Competitors acknowledge that they compete at their own risk.

15. A copy of each piece of music (preferably a full score, not set parts) must be

handed in to the Registration Desk for the Adjudicator before the commencement of the sessions for piano and strings. The copy is to be marked with Section

number and Competitor number.

16. A student may enter in only two consecutive grades of Music in the current Eisteddfod.

17. Sheet music provided must include a bar number at the beginning of each line of music. Competitors may write these onto the sheet music by hand.

18. Competitors must use original music or have permission from the relevant owners of copyright to make and use any copies of music in the Hamilton Eisteddfod. If competitors use photocopied works or copies of sound recordings, they must warrant they have secured permission from the relevant owners of copyright to make the photocopy or copy. The photocopy will be destroyed by the Eisteddfod Committee after use. Schools may use ‘AMCOS’ stamped photocopies as per the AMCOS agreement. Each entrant will be required to complete Copyright

Permission Forms 1, 2 & 5 as part of the STARDOM online entry process. Hamilton Eisteddfod holds an APRA licence.

19. There will not be an Official Accompanist. Competitors are to provide their own accompanist.

ADJUDICATORS:

20. Communication with the Adjudicator is prohibited during the competitions, whether by competitors, teachers or interested parties.

21. The Committee reserves the right to use a substitute Adjudicator in any section.

22. The Adjudicator reserves the right to withhold any prize where insufficient merit has been displayed.

23. Competitors who do not adhere to the conditions set out in the schedule for their section will not be eligible to receive prize money and/or trophies in that section.

STAGE RULES:

24. To obtain a teacher/coach pass to remain backstage, a current VIT (Victorian Teacher’s Registration) or equivalent, or a Working With Children Check needs to be presented to the Secretary’s Desk, otherwise a pass will not be issued. A limit of three teacher’s passes for each school will be allocated. The pass needs to be prominently displayed and will entitle the teacher to free admission to the auditorium. A coach’s pass will not entitle the holder to free admission to the auditorium. (A ‘coach’ is an individual who is assisting a performer where no teacher is available.)

RECORDING OF PERFORMANCES & MEDIA USE:

25. The use of any digital devices by members of the audience is prohibited during competition. This includes mobile phones, tablets, cameras or video cameras.

Offenders may be removed from the auditorium. The Committee reserves the right to record, photograph, broadcast and/or telecast any part of the competition.

26. The Committee reserves the right to have present, on occasions, Media

Photographers or Official Photographers and to photograph items for the purpose of publicity, and use such for promotional purposes at any time. Winners’ names may be made public to the local media and via other official Hamilton Eisteddfod

channels.

27. Authorised Photographers may be present to film or photograph the performances in order to offer these photos for sale to parents and competitors. By entering the Hamilton Eisteddfod, you are agreeing to being recorded, broadcast, telecast, photographed or named according to Conditions 25, 26 and 27.

RIGHTS OF THE COMMITEE:

28. The Committee reserves the right to cancel or otherwise amend sections if insufficient entries are received.

29. The decision of the Committee in all questions and disputes arising out of or not provided for by these Conditions shall be final. All entries are received subject to this proviso and shall not be subject to any appeal at Law.

30. Excluding the Competitor Information Document and Running Sheet, the copying by any means of any Hamilton Eisteddfod Inc. publication is not permitted without the written permission of the Committee.
