The application deadline is May 15, 2015 at noon.

The Practical Nursing Program at ASUMH is designed to prepare the student to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. The technical certificate combines classroom instruction with clinical experience. The course of study meets the requirements of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing for practical nursing programs. The student must maintain a 2.0 grade point average or “C” average or better in all required coursework in order to graduate and be eligible to apply for the National Council of Licensure

Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). There is no advanced placement in this program.

Persons convicted of a crime may be ineligible to take the licensing exam, NCLEX-PN, to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. This information can be found at:

http://www.arsbn.arkansas.gov/lawsRules/Pages/nursePracticeAct.aspx. State and federal criminal background checks by the Arkansas State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation are required for licensure. It is possible to complete a program of study at ASUMH and be denied the opportunity to take the NCLEX-PN by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

DAY OPTION: Students admitted to the day option will complete the program in approximately 11 months, beginning mid-August and ending at the end of July in the following year. This option follows the ASUMH academic calendar for the Fall, Spring, and Extended Summer Terms. Students in the program attend classes or clinical sessions 6-8 hours per day, four days a week.

Application to the Practical Nursing program does not guarantee admission. Class size is limited and all applicants may not be accepted into the program. Admission to the program is competitive. Applicants are considered for the PN program after completing and submitting the following information:

1. Admission to ASUMH

2. Submission of Practical Nursing Application

3. Completion of the HESI A2 admissions exam with a minimum score of 70%

4. Completion of all pre-requisites with a grade of “C” or better

5. The successful completion of any necessary developmental courses prior to application submission

Applicants are considered for the Practical Nursing Program after completing a formal application for admission to ASUMH and submitting it to the Office of Admissions, including submission of all required admission credentials (see the ASUMH Catalog and Student Handbook—Admission Section).
