Troubleshooting

Do not connect the hardware before installing the software/drivers. If you have already done so then Windows has chosen a generic driver automatically and assigned it to the hardware. Page 14 describes how to uninstall this driver.

(14)

To check if your machine detects the cable correctly open the Device Manager. - Click Start > Right Click My Computer > Select Properties

- Click ‘Device Manager’ to open. - Expand the Ports(COM & LPT)

- Connect the USB capture cable to the PC The cable should appear as a ‘USB to Serial Converter’.

Depending on your system your cable will be assigned a port number. In the example below the cable has been assigned PORT number 4.

If the cable does not appear as a USB to Serial Converter, then follow the steps on Page 14 to re-install the drivers.

(15)

If Windows has an issue assigning the driver to your hardware use the following steps to uninstall the driver and reinstall the software.

Follow the guide in the previous section to navigate to the Device Manager. Find the description assigned by windows. In the example below Windows has detected the cable as a VMware USB Device.

Right click and select Uninstall then disconnect the cable from the machine.

Next Re-install the Ash Capture Software

• Uninstall the Capture Control Software by clicking Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program

• Highlight Ash capture Control and click uninstall.

• Follow the instructions to remove the software and its drivers. • Reinstall the Ash Capture Software by running the Setup file.

• Once the installation is complete you can now connect your hardware. • Follow the guide on Page 8 to connect your cable with the software.

In order to use the software in a networked environment certain IT settings may need to be applied. These settings are maintained by your network administrator.

- The user needs to have read and write permissions to the Image Store Location which is set in the File > Application Preferences section.

-

- The application uses a Settings.XML file stored in the C:\ProgramData\AshCaptureControl directory. This is a hidden directory and any user logged into a machine who does not have permission to read and write to this location will not be able to save settings. Error messages will appear during start/exit of the

application as the program tries to read/write to the Settings.xml file if the user does not have the needed permissions. These error messages will report ‘access denied’ or ‘cannot locate’.

Sleep & Hibernation

When some machines wake from Sleep/Hibernation Power Saving Modes the application may not detect the USB device and you will have to click the connect button. An alternative to this is to disable any Power Saving settings if the problem persists.

Windows 8

4. The system will restart to a "Choose an option" screen 5. Select "Troubleshoot" from "Choose an option" screen 6. Select "Advanced options" from "Troubleshoot" screen

7. Select "Windows Start-up Settings" from "Advanced options" screen 8. Click "Restart" button

9. The system will restart to "Advanced Boot Options" screen 10. Select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"

11. Once the system starts, install the capture software Note

You may need to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS setup before performing these steps. Consult your PCs manufacturer’s user guide on how to enter the BIOS setup.
