Greetings MCIT Families & Supporters!

As of this printing, the district will host the 1st Annual LT Career Fair on Wednesday, April 21. We have several employers who are looking for our best and brightest as future employees. The fair is virtual to accommodate all of our eligible students. The Fair is designed to connect current Juniors and Seniors to meaningful employment opportunities.

As you can see from this edition, our MCIT teachers are very excited to have the majority of our students attending in-person 4 days a week. We are wrapping up the school year by completing labs and projects that have had to be pushed back due to the hybrid schedule.

As a reminder, face coverings/masks will continue to be required of both staff and students when on school grounds for at least the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. The MSD of Lawrence Township appreciates the continued vigilance of staff and students both in wearing masks and in social distancing to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.

Congratulations are in order to our 2021 Teacher of the Year (TOY), Mrs. Hillary Pyle, Exceptional Learners Teacher who is in her 21st year of teaching. Mrs. Pyle works with students in Resource, Applied Work-Based Learning, and English. She is a proud Lawrence North graduate and has two children who attend LT Schools (Mary Castle Elementary & Lawrence North High School). Congratulations to Ms. Christie Smith, who has served MCIT for 16 years as a Cosmetology Instructional Assistant! Ms. Smith is a licensed Cosmetologist and Cosmetology Instructor. We are grateful to have her as a part of our Cosmetology & Barbering program.

Lastly, congratulations to our first group of Health Science II students who have  been working since August to learn all of the required CNA skills in the classroom and at our clinical sites. They continued to work towards their certification over  the  winter  months  and  now  have  earned  what  for  most  is  their  first  step  in  the health career profession. Many have already been offered positions at the nursing homes where they completed their training. Other programs are starting the certification process and we look forward to celebrating them in the near  future! Kindest Regards, Mari A. Swayne, Director MCIT

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA 2020-2021 Indiana State Competition

McKenzie Career Innovation & Technology

Fifteen (15) students from McKenzie competed in Indiana’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Competition Friday, March 12- Sunday, March 14, 2021 placing in categories and earning a total of 48 awards.

Additionally, this is the first year that Indiana University developed a very large chapter to compete in the same events at the college level of PBL/FBLA through the Kelley School of Business at IU.

Consequently, the judges this year were professionals who work at major Fortune 500 companies all over the country beyond Indiana since this was a Virtual competition and we now have a large PBL (College) level.

FBLA students and their advisor, Sonia Walker, had a team-building session during COVID - an ONLINE COOKING show. The students came in and picked up their box of ingredients and Ms. Walker lead an online cooking show in which each student ate together in their own homes. Parents were happy that their students had cooked enough to feed their family.

congrats to the 2020-2021 flba winners

PLANTING THE SEED

Mr. Schultheis, I’m not sure if you remember

me, but I was a student in your Strategic

Marketing class about three years ago, and I

wanted to reach out to you to say thank you for

all you did for me! At the time I was in your class,

I never really realized how much of the materials

I learned would apply to my daily life as a junior

at Indiana University. About a year ago I started,

my own investment Limited Liability Company,

and it’s safe to say I use the things I learned in

your class almost every single day. I remember

being a little bit of a trouble maker in your class,

and I look back and think about how selfish that

was because these materials ended up being

so valuable to me! I wanted to reach out to say

thank you so much, and to let you know the class

has been so helpful to me! I hope all is well, and

that you’re staying healthy in these tough times!

Best, Cade Satz

Students were placed in Zoom Breakout Rooms to practice the accounting cycle by playing

Accounting Mania. Students moved around the game board and recorded 20 transactions in

a general journal and then posted the entries into a general ledger. Students then performed

end of fiscal period work by creating a work sheet, an income statement, a balance sheet,

and post-closing trial balance. -- John Dawson
