Frequently Asked Questions on the Recruitment Process

1. What career opportunities are available?

You can review all of our current vacancies by following the path below: 1) Go to: http://www.sheridancollege.ca/

6) Click Current Career Opportunities 2. How often are opportunities posted?

Opportunities are posted regularly and we encourage you to check our website often to see new postings.

3. How do I apply to an opportunity?

If you would like to apply to any opportunity posted on the website (full-time/part-time/contract), we will require* an online application. At the bottom of the posting, select “apply for this job”. If this is the first opportunity you are applying to at Sheridan, you will be asked to create your profile. Please submit a copy of your resume and complete the mandatory questionnaire.

4. What qualifications do I need to teach part-time?

Our general requirement is that part-time faculty members have an academic credential at a minimum of one level above the credential granted by the program. For example, to be considered to teach courses for a 2 year diploma program, you will require, at minimum, a 3 year diploma/degree. Applications will be reviewed for relevant education and experience.

Please note: Incomplete credentials are not considered for recruitment purposes. 5. To whom should I address my cover letter?

As the hiring manager differs per competition, it is best to address your cover letter in generic terms such as “Hiring Committee”, “Human Resources” or “To whom this may concern”. Please be sure to include the Reference Number (i.e. 13/A/02) noted on the posting.

6. I am unable to submit an online application. What should I do?

If you are having technical difficulties with the online application process, please select “need further assistance” or email them at helpdesk@icims.com.

You should receive a response within 48 hours. If,you continue to experience difficulties, please email hrjobs@sheridancollege.ca..

6. I made an error. How do I change my application?

You cannot re-apply for an opportunity, but you can update information in any resume you wish to modify. Visit https://careers-sheridancollege.icims.com/jobs/dashboard and under General Options select “Update your profile”. You will then be provided with the options to re-submit a resume, update log-in information, update additional information as well as contact information.

7. Do I need to submit a separate application for each opportunity I’m interested in?

Yes. If you would like to apply for more than one opportunity, you will have to submit an application to each posting to be considered.

8. If I applied to an opportunity that closed, and then the same opportunity is reposted at a later date, do I need to apply again to be considered?

In the event an opportunity is re-posted, you will need to reapply in order to express your continued interest in the position, unless otherwise noted on the posting (i.e. previous applicants need not reapply).

9. How will I know if my application has been received?

Please note: You will not receive updates on the status of the competition throughout the recruitment process. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

10. Can I sign up for automatic email notification when postings come available that match my interests?

Yes, this can be done through www.workopolis.com. Once you select your particular interests through the job search function, Workopolis will generate a list of open job postings. There will be a link on the top right hand side of this list called “EMAIL ME JOBS LIKE THESE”. You will be asked to enter your email address and “name your job alert”.,You can also sign up for multiple email alerts based on different job search criteria.

Please note: This is a service provided by Workopolis. If you would like to be notified specifically of Sheridan postings, please enter “Sheridan” in the Workopolis search criteria.

11. Why can’t I just email/drop-off my resume?

All candidates are required* to apply online as this is our resume database. In addition, at the end of the application process, you will encounter a questionnaire which is part of our screening process. Each applicant will need to complete this in order to be considered.

12. What if I missed the deadline date for a posted opportunity? Unfortunately, we cannot accept late applications.

13. What if I applied to the wrong opportunity? Can I retract an application? In order to remove your application, log onto

https://careers-sheridancollege.icims.com/jobs/dashboard and select “View the status of jobs you have applied to”. Then click “withdraw” beside the job title.

14. I’ve been selected for an interview. What documents should I bring with me?

If you have been selected for an interview, you will be directed to the Candidates page on the HR website:

Please bring the following:

b) Copies of your credentials and/or evaluation(s) for international credentials

15. At what stage of the recruitment process will I need to submit a formal evaluation of my international credential(s)?

If you are selected for an interview and possess an international credential, you will need to visit World Education Services (www.wes.org/ca/ ) to complete a free degree equivalency assessment of your credential. You will need to bring this preliminary assessment to the interview. At the same time, we would strongly encourage you to begin the formal process of evaluating your credentials.

If you are the successful candidate, you will need to complete and provide an official evaluation (i.e WES basic evaluation, Document by Document), as a condition of employment. The fees associated with evaluation can be found on the World Education Services website. Although we highly

recommend WES to complete your degree equivalency, we will also accept formal evaluations from the International Credential Assessment Services of Canada (ICAS) as well as the University of Toronto’s Comparative Education Services (CES).

16. How do I know if I am considered an internal bargaining unit candidate? For Support Staff Opportunities:

All post-probationary, full-time Support Staff and Initiatives/Opportunities employees at Sheridan are considered internal.

Please note: Appendix D Support Staff and Part-time employees are not considered to be internal as per the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

For Faculty Opportunities:

All current partial-Load employees and persons who have been Partial-Load employees within one month prior to the posting date shall be considered internal applicants.

17. When will I hear from Sheridan if I am selected for an interview?

This varies by opportunity. However, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. 18. When can I expect to hear of the status of my application following my interview?

Human Resources typically contacts candidates within 2 weeks following the interview. 19. What does the recruitment process involve?

Candidate resumes are screened and those selected for an interview are contacted. Some

opportunities require a second round interview. Testing and/or a presentation may also be required depending on the opportunity.

20. How many people can I expect on an interview committee?

At the interview, you can typically expect to meet with a selection committee of 3 to 10 Sheridan representatives (depending on the position).
