You submitVolumeCopyrequests byspecifyingtwocompatible drives. One drive isdesignatedastheSource andtheother astheTarget. The

PartitionExpansion
You canusethePartitionExpansionfeaturetopresentallof thedefined logical drivesina storagesubsystemtoa SAN,throughseveral different partitions.Youcandothisbymappingeach logicaldrive toaLUN(0 -31) ineachof thedefinedpartitions.Alogicaldrive canbemapped toonlyone partition atatime. Inastoragepartition, themappedlogicaldrivesare accessibleonly tothehostserverorserverswhosehost busadapterhost ports aredefinedinthatstoragepartition.ThisfeatureenablestheDS3000 storagesubsystemtoactasamultiplevirtualstoragesubsystemto the host server.
PartitionExpansionalsoenables multiplehoststhatusedifferentoperating systems, withtheirownuniquediskstoragesubsystemsettings,to connect to thesameDS3000storagesubsystematthesametime. Thisisknownas a heterogeneoushost environment.

Storage subsystem management methods
TheStorage Managersoftwareprovidesthefollowingtwomethodsfor managing storagesubsystems:
v Thehost-agent(in-band)management method(DS3300 andDS3400 only) v Thedirect(out-of-bandorEthernet)managementmethod
If youestablishmanagementconnectionsfrommultiplemanagementstationsor hoststo thesameDS3000storagesubsystem,itisbestpractice tohave onlyone active managementconnectionto theDS3000 storagesubsystemata time, even thougheight simultaneousactivemanagementsessionsaresupportedina DS3000 storagesubsystem.
Host-agent (in-band) management method (not supported for the
DS3200)
When youareusingthehost-agent(in-band)management method, youmanage thestoragesubsystemsthroughtheI/Opathtothehost.Themanagement informationcan eitherbeprocessedinthehostor bepassedto themanagement station throughthenetworkconnection,asshowninFigure1.
Note: Asof thedateofthis document,theDS3200does notsupportin-band management.
Managingstoragesubsystemsthroughthehost-agenthasthefollowing advantages:
v Youdonothavetoconnect Ethernetcables tothecontrollers.
