Section 2 Composition/Information on Ingredients
Ingredient CAS No Percent Hazardous
Camphor 76-22-2 90-100% Yes
Section 3 Hazards Identification
Flammable, avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Avoid exposure to vapor Inflammability (flash point): 65°C(150F) (Closed cup).
Section 4 First Aid Measures
Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids Skin: Immediately pull off contaminated clothes and shoes, flush skin with plenty of water Inhalation: remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Seek medical aid.
Section 5 Fire Fighting Measures
General Information Combustible material may burn meeting with high temperature, open fire and oxidizing agent
Fire fighting information: Small fires - CO2, dry chemical, dry sand, alcohol resistant foam Large fires - Fog or alcohol resistant foam with water spray around to reduce temperature
Section 6 Accidental Release Measures
Remove all sources of ignition. Ventilate area of leak or spill. Wear appropriate ersonal protective equipment as specified in Section 8. Solid camphor sublimes to its gaseous state in air at room temperature and standard pressure.
Spills: Use non-sparking tools and equipment. Pick up spill for recovery or
disposal and place in a closed container.
Keep in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from sources of heal or ignition. Protect against physical damage. Store separately from reactive or combustible materials, and out of direct sunlight. Isolate from incompatible substances. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (dust, solids); observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.
Section 8 Exposure Controls, Personal Protection
Engineering controls: sealing operation, local ventilation Personal protection equipment:
Eyes: wear appropriates protective eyeglasses Hands: wear appropriate gloves
Skin: wear appropriate clothing
Respirators: wear appropriate gas mask while concentration in air is higher than the standard
Section 9 Physical and Chemical Properties
Engineering controls: sealing operation, local ventilation Personal protection equipment:
Eyes: wear appropriates protective eyeglasses Hands: wear appropriate gloves
Skin: wear appropriate clothing
Stability:
Stable under ordinary conditions of use and storage. Sublimes at room temperature and standard pressure.
Hazardous Decomposition Products:
Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide may form when heated to decomposition.
Hazardous Polymerization:
Will not occur. Incompatibilities:
Camphor is incompatible with potassium permanganate, chromic anhydride + naphthalene, and oxidizers, Volatile reaction occurs with steam. Evolves explosive vapors when heated. Salts, of any kind, should not be added to camphor water.
Conditions to Avoid :
Heat, flames, ignition sources and incompatibles.
Section 11 Toxicological Information
No LD50/LC50 information found relating to normal routes of occupational exposure. Investigated as a tumorigen and mutagen.
