SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE FROM MRS. WARNER

As we are getting prepared to close the 2020-2021 school year, I again want to extend my gratitude for the support and positivity from all of the stakeholders in the Warrensburg-Latham CUSD #11 community. Our teachers and staff approached new challenges with a smile on their faces and were motivated to educate students and promote the health and safety of everyone. Our parents and students were patient, resilient, and flexible as we facilitated new schedules, teaching methods, bus routes, food service models, etc. It took all of us working together to overcome the challenges of COVID this year. Thank you for your continued support!

Email Change for All WL Employees

The district is in the process of transitioning to Gmail for all employees. Moving forward, we will not be using the wl.k12.il.us email any longer. All staff currently have a functioning wlcusd11.org email account. Accounts are currently being updated on district web pages and directories. Please make note of changes in your contacts.

2021-2022 School Calendar & Daily Schedule

The approved 2021-2022 school calendar is included in this newsletter. We are planning for a traditional full school day from 8:00 a.m.-3:01 p.m. We will have an early dismissal every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. as the district did prior to the pandemic. This early dismissal allows for the district to provide continual professional development to teachers as allowable by the State Board of Education. We are hoping and planning for pre-pandemic conditions with IL in Phase 5 at the start of the school year. However, if we have not reached Phase 5, we may still face some pandemic-related restrictions within the schools. For example, we may still be limited to 50 students per bus, we may still be required to wear facemasks, and we may still need to adjust food service due to required 6 foot distancing when facemasks are off.

2021-2022 District Fees

The approved 2021-2022 district fees list is contained in this newsletter. There are some items, such as the Instructional Fee and Athletic Fee, that have increased due to significant increases in cost to the district as a result of transitioning to one-to-one with Chromebooks for all students and significant costs associated with increases in athletics through the IL Elementary School Association (IESA) and IL High School Association (IHSA). There has also been a slight increase in the cost of lunch prices to meet the USDA requirements. We have not seen an increase in the majority of fees for the district since 2012-2013.

*Transportation will be available if needed. We ask that transportation be consistent, as we will not have the ability to alter routes, number of students, etc.

Remote Learning in 2021-2022

As included in the April newsletter, it is critical for families to know that WL will ONLY offer remote

learning to students who have a documented medical condition that puts them at increased risk of severe illness in relation to COVID-19 or who reside with an individual with an increased risk of severe illness in relation to COVID-19. Remote learning will no longer be an option as a personal preference for

students/families. For a student to be eligible for remote learning, a physician’s note documenting the medical condition and the increased risk factor in relation to COVID-19 is required. If your student will be eligible for remote learning in 2021-2022, please communicate with your building principal (including providing a

physician's note) no later than May 21st. WL is planning to utilize an out-of-district online education provider to provide remote learning. Your student’s instruction and assessment would be facilitated by an out-of-district instructor. The district’s philosophy is that in-person learning is the best method of instruction.

Upcoming Important Dates

 May 3rd-7th – Teacher Appreciation Week

 May 21st – Last day of attendance for students

 May 23rd – WLHS Graduation

 May 24th – Remote Planning Day – No student attendance or online instruction – End of 4th Quarter

 May 25th – Teacher Institute Day – No student attendance

As always, please keep lines of communication open with your student’s teachers and principal regarding any learning or social emotional concerns, so we can approach any issues as a team.

WARRENSBURG-LATHAM EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION UPDATE

Warrensburg-Latham Educational Foundation, WLEF, is a non-profit organization

consisting of parents, former educators, alumni, and community members. WLEF works to expand our students’ educational opportunities through classroom grants, scholarships, and recognizing our graduates’ academic excellence. Many of the grants are funded to help our students become critical thinkers who are self-sufficient, skilled communicators, and who are socially and emotionally competent in their community.

The WLEF is having a REVERSE RAFFLE beginning April 22. Tickets are $20 and all

proceeds go right back into the school and will be used for grants for our WL teachers. In the past, grants have been given for alternative seating in classrooms, books, STEM supplies, and most recently, COVID relief, specifically webcams for classrooms.

There are 3 ways you can purchase a ticket:

1. You can purchase a ticket online! Simply go to the District website - https://www.wl.k12.il.us/ THEN select ONLINE PAYMENTS. You will need to login to RevTrack, then you will scroll down & select WLEF. You will see an option to donate or purchase a raffle ticket on the left side of the screen. 2. Purchase a ticket from any of the WLEF Trustees: Mike Pasquariello, Rocco Dominick, Danniel

Wentworth, Wendy Jalley, Melanie Brown, Tim Hoffman, Jennifer Hopkins, Dagen McKenzie, Nanci Murphy, Kim Pyle, Nicole Godfrey, Justin Lyon, Staci Buchholz, and Cheryl Warner.

3. Stop by the District Office and purchase one!

An early bird drawing will take place on Friday, May 7. One ticket drawn will win $250. The final drawing will be held on June 5th at a LIVE event (details to come). The grand prize will be $1250 or 25% of ticket sales revenue. The 5 finalists must be present to win (you can name a proxy) and will have the option of splitting the pot or eliminating a finalist. This process will continue until all finalists agree on splitting or 1 winner is left. Support your school! The WLEF Trustees shared WHY they serve on this board and love supporting initiatives such as the Reverse Raffle...

Rocco Dominick said "I like serving on the WLEF Board because money we raise goes toward scholarships for graduating students. It is an honor to recognize the students selected for their hard work and know that the WLEF is helping them continue their education."

Dagen McKenzie, Trustee of WLEF said "This year the WLEF was able to help the school with financial burdens due to COVID. I have been impressed with the technological advances the district was able to make and am glad to be a part of the behind the scenes efforts to help make this possible."

All of the monies collected will be used to benefit WL Schools. Go get your ticket & thank you in advance for your support!

If you wish to get involved with the WLEF, please check out our page on the school website, on Facebook @Warrensburg Latham Educational Foundation or contact any of the board members. Thank you again for all your support!

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS FROM MR. DOWNING

Hello WLHS Families,

I hope this newsletter finds all of you well, and I’m sure all of you are also finding yourself in busy mode with the school year coming to a close. This may not have been the ideal school year for many of us, but even as I reflect back from last year's end of the school year, I see many more positive things going on around us. It has been great to finish out the year together with many of our students back in-person, sports being able to

compete, extra-curricular activities starting up, students’ grades improving, teachers being able to support and meet the needs of our students, and, most of all, seeing our children smile because they are able to be around their friends.

As we move forward in the month of May, we will have a lot going on to close out the end of the school year. We will also make sure there is more detailed information concerning each event as we move

forward. One of the main questions that many students and parents have asked is about summer school. We are going to be having summer school from June 1-June 24 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., Monday through Thursday in-person, and each Friday will be a remote day. The cost will be $150 for each person and will be open for students that would like to earn credit for any class(es) they have failed. We will begin to send out more

information and sign ups in a few weeks. We will also offer “Behind the Wheel” for part of our summer school program. Coach Fricke has already reached out to students that will qualify for driving this summer.

(9)

 May 5th: Award Night and Induction into National Honor Society

 May 12th: Remote Learning Day for HS 9th, 10th, and 12th graders only!

o 11th graders will be taking a mandatory state science test

 May 14th: Seniors Last Day for Grades

 May 16th-21st Senior Week Starts

 May 21st Last Day for ALL students

 May 23rd Graduation

Again as we move forward, more information will be sent out. Please make sure to check your email because that is our main way of getting information out to our families. The students will receive an email regarding the return of chromebooks, cases, and chargers before they leave for the summer. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or the office!

REMINDER FOR SENIORS

Seniors must have filed the FAFSA or turned in the FAFSA waiver to Mrs. Billingsley to be able to graduate. This must be done by May 1. If you need assistance, please email Mrs. Billingsley at

[email protected].

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS FROM MR. HOFFMAN

We are in the final push for the end of school. At the beginning of the school year, we asked for everyone’s patience and support during this new time in education. We could not be happier as we all worked together to provide the best learning environment for our students. Thank you for what each of you have done to support the school district.

The first full week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week. If you have a second, please write a short email or send a note thanking your student’s teacher. We are so lucky to have such wonderful teachers at WLMS. Students will be receiving next year’s schedules soon. Elective choices may be limited this year as we change some things up from the past. We want to focus our attention on our core subjects, as we know there are some instructional gaps that were caused from this Pandemic. We will make all attempts to place students in their top choices for electives. We will be offering Choir and Band to all grade levels for next year. Please notify the office if you have any questions about schedules.

Due to our current restrictions, WLMS will not be hosting an 8th grade dance to end this school year. We are currently working to still plan an event for just our 8th graders. We know it will be different, but we want the students to have one last middle school event before heading to high school.

students to assist them through the program. The program is scheduled to take place in the month of June, but some students may finish before that. Administration will reach out to families whose student is recommended to use this program in order to move on to the next grade. If families want more information, please email me at [email protected].

Chromebook/Hotspots: We will be collecting student Chromebooks and chargers the last week of school in

May. Remote learners will also need to turn those in to the middle school office that week. Any lost or broken Chromebooks may require additional fees upon returning. Please check with the MS office to arrange a drop off time if you are a remote learner.

Thank you to everyone that helped make this year successful. I would like to wish the best to our 8th graders as they move on to high school!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS FROM MRS. ANDERSON

Dear WLES Families,

Below are some dates and information as we near the end of this school year:  May 3rd-7th: State Testing for 3rd-5th graders

 May 3rd-7th: Teacher Appreciation Week

 May 17th: Chromebook and Hotspot Return for in-person learners  May 21st: Chromebook and Hotspot Return for remote students  May 21st: Last Day of School for Students

 May 24th: Remote Planning Day: No in-person or remote learning

As we look forward to next school year, we are planning for a return to normalcy with the school schedule (this school year taught me to not be so confident in my plans, though). Our families have been so patient with us throughout the changes this school year. I wanted you to know where my head is at with regard to next year’s school structure (as long as ISBE/IDPH guidelines allow). Remote learning will only be for those students with a doctor’s note for themselves or someone in their household. Remote learning will also look different, as we are looking into options for a 3rd party to do this for us, so that our teachers can focus solely on the in-person learners. I will keep families updated as plans are solidified and decisions are made!

Elementary Girls’ Basketball- 2021/2022

1st Grade-5th Grade

Even though COVID-19 wreaked havoc on elementary sports this last year, I have completely revamped what our elementary girls’ basketball opportunities will look like for the 2021-2022 school year and am so excited to share this information with you! Here is a list of these opportunities for this upcoming school year:

 3 day summer camp with a team scrimmage at the end of the 3rd day

 Dates: July 6th-8th

 Times: 5:30-7:00 pm

 Scrimmage: Thursday, July 8th @ 6:30-7:00 pm

 Price: $25

 *T-shirt included

 3 day fall camp with a team scrimmage at the end of the 3rd day

 Dates: TBD

 Times: TBD

 Price: TBD

 *T-shirt included

 3 day spring camp with a team scrimmage at the end of the 3rd day

 Dates: TBD

 Times: TBD

 Price: TBD

 *T-shirt included

 Recognition during half time of a middle school girls’ basketball game (Date TBD)

 Free admittance for youth player and one parent/guardian to a high school girls’ basketball game (Date TBD)

My goal is to incorporate all levels (elementary/youth, middle, and high school) and unify them into one program, as opposed to three separate entities. I want the elementary girls to feel as though they are part of the program from an early age. We preach FAMILY with our high school girls, and it is important to me that our younger girls feel like they belong to our family, as well- the sooner the better! More details about the fall and spring camps, the recognition at a MS game, and the admittance to a HS game will be communicated at a later date.

Warrensburg-Latham Elementary School

Girls’ Basketball- Summer Camp 2021

Who: Girls in grades 1st-5th

The elementary girls will have the opportunity to participate in a summer clinic, a fall clinic, a spring clinic, recognition at a middle school girls’ game, and free admittance into a high school girls’ game. More details about the fall and spring camps, the recognition at a MS game, and the admittance to a HS game will be communicated at a later date. If your player is interested in the summer clinic, please see the information

below and return the bottom portion no later than Tuesday, May 18th.

Summer Clinic:

Dates: Tuesday, July 6th-Thursday, July 8th

Time: 5:30-7:00 p.m. (The scrimmage will be 6:30-7:00 p.m. on July 8th .)

Location: WLHS Gym Cost: $25

We want to provide the elementary school girls with the skills necessary to excel in the middle school program, and we believe that having several days throughout the school year (summer, fall, and spring) to work on skills will benefit them greatly. Because our first priority is to enhance their basketball skills, we will not be handing out any trophies or medals; I feel that it takes away from the purpose of the clinic. We want the girls to have fun and enjoy their experience while also learning about the game. We will be providing t-shirts.

Phone: (217) 672-3531 Ext. 3067 Email: [email protected]
