Centering Prayer (inspired by John 10: 38-42) Leader:
God for everything there is a time,
and time is now our most precious commodity.
Our clocks are always running.
From birth to death:
during times of joy and sorrow:
work and play:
business and pleasure:
speech and silence:
worship and church activities:
tick, tock, tick, tock.
All:
We are like Martha, with our long to-do lists.
Slow us down Lord,
and for now simply remind us that only one thing is needful,
that we be still before you
and know that you are God. Amen.
~ revised from a prayer by Rev. Dr. A.R. Neal Mathers, in Mary and Martha: Worshipful Work, posted on Presbyterian Record.

Scripture Psalm 90:12 (NRSV)
12 So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.
Luke 10:38-42 (NRSV)
38 Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was
saying. 40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." 41 But the Lord answered her,
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42 there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her."

Food for Thought
Many Christians say it's essential to have a personal relationship with Jesus, but if we don't make time for Jesus, do we really have a relationship?
Faith formation tip
A rule of life is a personal rule about how you will manage your life of faith.
Modern time management is hard. If you struggle to find time for Jesus or family or anything else important to you, consider making a time budget for yourself. Cut out unimportant things and schedule some time for Prayer or reading scripture.
Schedule other important things like family time and self-care as well. Stick to it and set boundaries around what is important to you.
There is nothing like the present for doing the better thing.
Don't put off what is vital for your faith and you're spirit. Don't make work more critical than time with God. Don't reverse procrastinate.
God created time, but we created time management. How are you managing your time on earth? Time is a Gift ment to be shared with others.
