Dress Code (Handbook p. 19)

Dress - How students dress for school reflects their commitment to the important business of school, and it helps prepare them for the dress code expectations of any career choice they might make. Decisions with regard to what to wear to school should reflect good taste and common sense. We are not getting dressed to go to practice, to go to the gym, to go to bed, or to go to the beach. How we dress does have a psychological effect on how we perform. The goal of what we wear to school is not to make a statement, stand out from the crowd, fit in, or attract attention. The environment/learning process cannot be

unduly disrupted because of how we look. A level of modesty is a primary goal that will help ensure appropriate student dress.

(7)

Dress Code (Handbook p. 19)

Student dress prohibitions during school hours:

No foul or suggestive language, drugs and alcohol displayed on clothing

Undergarments of any kind (undershorts, bra straps, tank tops designed to be worn as undershirts) may not be exposed

Uncovered tight/form fitting articles such as spandex, (yoga pants) & tank tops

Pajama/lounge pants and slippers

Shirts with sleeves/sides cut exposing chest

Shorts/skirts that do not extend to the tips of the fingers with arms at side

No caps/hats on in the building

Dress for success

(8)

Dress Code (Handbook p. 19)

The administration and staff urge parental cooperation in avoiding problems regarding dress,

grooming, and personal conduct.

Shorts are allowed, as long as they extend beyond the tips of the

fingers. When a student is

participating in school activities, his/her dress and grooming will not disrupt his/her performance or that of other students, or constitute a health threat to the individual or other students.

PCPS staff has the authority to enforce these expectations and the

administration may use their judgment in making final decisions on if a student is appropriately dressed for the important business of school. In general school dress should be such that it ensures the health, welfare and safety of the

members of the student body and enhances a positive image of our

students and school. Any form of dress or grooming that attracts undue

attention or violates the previous statement is obviously unacceptable.

(Board Policy 5031)

(9)

Dress Code With Masks

Students will not be allowed into school buildings in the mornings until 7:50 AM, unless they have made arrangements with a specific teacher or sponsor.

Students will be temperature screened upon entering the

building--except those arriving on a bus, who do not need to be screened again.

If a student has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, he/she may not attend school. If the student did not drive, arrangements will be made for the student to be picked up by a parent or emergency contact.

Students in grades 6-12 will be required to wear face masks to enter the building (more details below about face masks).

Students must report directly to their classroom. For grades 6-12,

students may stop at their locker, but then must report directly to their first period classroom. Students are not allowed to hang out in the hallways before reporting to class.

Students are expected to apply hand sanitizer upon entering the

building, and after every transition. Hand sanitizer will be available in every classroom.

(10)

Dress Code With Masks

The school will provide cloth and/or disposable face

masks to students that do not have them. A system will be developed by administration for reusable cloth face masks to be cleaned by either the school, the students, or a

combination of both.

All students in grades 6-12 will be required to wear face masks during passing times and times spent in common areas unless otherwise stated in this document (e.g. while eating lunch, during physical exercise or sports practices, while singing or playing a musical instrument, etc.).

(11)

Dress Code With Masks

6-12 students will be allowed to remove their facemask when arriving in their classroom at their seats if students’ chairs or assigned areas are adequately distanced, which will be decided by each classroom teacher for each class period. Also, a parent/guardian can fill out an opt-in form requesting that their child does wear a face mask throughout the school day.

Students refusing to wear a face mask during transition times or when instructed to by school personnel (unless not required to do so under an IEP or 504 Plan accommodation) are subject to discipline for violating

District behavior expectations, and are subject to discipline as outlined in the student handbook and board policy.

Face shields are not considered an equivalent replacement for face

masks to prevent COVID-19 spread. However, for students with disabilities preventing them from wearing masks, IEP or 504 Plan teams may

consider face shields as replacements for masks.
