Scholarships
What is a scholarship?
Feed the world
Protect the future
Live well
A Lincoln scholarship is the opportunity to study at New Zealand’s
specialist land-based university while having some or all of the
cost of your study paid for.
Many scholarships are awarded on your academic grades but
some scholarships take into account other factors including
personal qualities, financial need, where you live and the course
of study that you choose.
Most scholarships are awarded at the start of the academic
year. Some scholarships may be paid in instalments throughout
the year, others are paid as a living allowance. The majority of
scholarships are tenable for one year, although a growing number
are now available for the duration of your degree provided certain
standards are maintained.
It is well worth every student spending time exploring the
scholarship options available at Lincoln as there are literally
hundreds to choose from, whether you are undergraduate,
postgraduate, from New Zealand or an International student.
Please note: From time to time regulations relating to a
scholarship may change. Sometimes scholarships are withdrawn,
while new scholarships may be added. In all cases, the
scholarships database on the website will provide you with the
most up-to-date information and takes priority over the contents
of this booklet – go to
www.lincoln.ac.nz/scholarships
.
In some cases, scholarships are administered by other entities,
independent of the University. Where this is noted in the booklet,
please use those particular entities’ contact details to request an
application form.

Sports Scholarships
Sports Scholarships
If you are serious about your sport and your study, come to New Zealand’s specialist land-based university and enjoy a specialist education and a sporting programme that will help you make the most of your sporting potential.
Every year we offer a select group of students the opportunity to gain a world-class academic qualification, while
developing sporting abilities to a professional level. As a sports scholar your tuition fees will be paid and you will share a unique university experience with other high achieving athletes.
Game Plan
Lincoln University’s Sports Scholarship Programme combines academic study with the extension and development of athletic and sporting abilities. Lincoln University established the Sports Scholarship Programme in 1999. It was the first of its kind in New Zealand and has produced some of the country’s most well-known athletes.
Athletic Performance
The scholarship athletic performance programme aspires to produce highly-skilled athletes through assisting in the development of intellectual, personal and physical performance.
Balancing sporting success with academic achievement and developing lifelong skills through experiences is the priority in this programme. The athletic performance programme will challenge sports scholars in areas such as physical ability, accountability, consistency and attitude, all of which can be brought to the playing field. The well-rounded student athletes graduating from this programme will have the attributes necessary to succeed at the highest level.
Consultants
We work with the best consultants in New Zealand as part of our team, to help our sports scholars continue to improve athletic performance.
Consultants are available to support sports scholars in: • Mental conditioning
• Nutrition coaching
• Physiotherapy and sports medicine
• Specialist sports skill acquisition, technical and tactical development.
Our Performance Programmes
The aim of the specialist Sports Scholarship Programme at Lincoln University is to support and develop your athletic and academic needs. To help achieve the right balance, the Sports Scholarship team has introduced a multi-disciplinary approach to improve both athletic and academic performance through consulting internal and external specialists.
Academic Performance
Sports scholars need to show sporting capability, and have the commitment to complete a Lincoln University degree programme. Balancing your time to achieve both academic targets and agreed sporting standards can be challenging, which is why we have a dedicated academic coordinator at Lincoln University to assist with your study selection, course planning and time management. In order to retain your Lincoln University Sports Scholarship you will have to pass all your University courses.
We currently offer sports scholarships in: • Basketball • Cricket • Field Hockey • Football • Golf • Netball • Rowing • Rugby
• Elite (this is a scholarship programme open to athletes competing at a national level in other sporting codes).
We will want to see that you, as a sports scholar have the ability to perform at the highest level in your chosen sport, and that you can achieve a specialist degree while competing in that sport. We’ll also consider applications from those who are referees, umpires, coaches and administrators in each of the above sports codes.

Global Challenges
Scholarships
Global Challenges
Scholarships
Feed the world, protect the future, live well. They are Lincoln University’s causes; a response to the global challenges facing the planet today – challenges such as climate change, food production and security, depleting resources, urban sprawl, the loss of biodiversity, and pollution.
Because the global challenges are complex and there’s no ‘one size fits all solution, everyone needs to be involved. To this end, in 2014 Lincoln introduced the Global Challenges Programme and associated undergraduate scholarships.
The Programme
The Global Challenges Programme is a nationwide project, designed to have a positive effect on students and the community.
It draws on the content of Lincoln University courses and research, and specifically aligns this content with secondary school curricula to educate pupils and staff.
Through outreach activities and events, the programme will extend into the community, engaging a wide range of groups with ‘grass roots’ initiatives aimed at helping grow understanding of the global challenges.
The Scholarships
Underpinning the Global Challenges Programme for schools are the Global Challenges Scholarships for school leavers. The Global Challenges Scholars will act as ambassadors of the Global Challenges Programme by actively contributing across all aspects of the programme to help make its impact real and tangible.
Successful applicants will participate in the University-based activities within the Global Challenges Programme. This will comprise a series of planned activities throughout the academic year including individual and group projects.
