Something new!

Corporate Table sponsorships are now available for the AFCEA Hampton Roads Chapter monthly luncheons! This is the chapter's next step to welcome our military, government civilian and guests to our informative monthly luncheons at a reduced cost (or free, if we have enough sponsorship!). The details are:

Cost: Annual cost of $1400 includes 11 monthly luncheons (excludes AFCEA East June 17 - 19). Once you provide your corporate logo, it will be prominently displayed on your table. A monthly table cost of $150 will be available to those who desire ala carte.

How this works: There are eight seats per table, the sponsoring company has four seats and the other four are for guests that will be assigned at random by the chapter arrangements committee.

Who to contact: Please contact Tim Harschutz at [email protected] .

Education/Scholarship Scholarships

The Chapter will award (or renew) nine $2500 scholarships this year.

(4)

4 Seven 2007 scholarship winners will be eligible for renewals if they meet our renewal criteria of 3.3 cumulative GPA with no grade below a B-minus, but experience suggests that one or two of last year’s winners will not meet these criteria. Thus, we should be able to award two to four new scholarships. New scholarship awards are not limited to graduating high school seniors. Current undergraduates are also eligible to apply.

We advertise the availability of these scholarships to public school systems and counselors in the South Hampton Roads area through various channels but outreach to private high schools and current undergraduates is difficult. Please let your friends, acquaintances and associates whose children may be eligible to apply that these scholarships are available. The deadline for submission of applications is April 25, 2008. Full details of the eligibility criteria and application procedures are available online at the Chapter website: http://www.afceahamptonroads.org/afcea_hampton_roads _pro.htm

Science Fair

The 57th annual Tidewater Regional Science Fair is scheduled for March 8, 2008 at ODU’s Webb Center. Funding for this event has depended entirely on the generosity of corporate and private donors since 2004. This private “no strings attached” financial support has made a difference because it has allowed the Tidewater Science Congress to eliminate public-funding restrictions that had limited participation in the Science Fair to students from school districts that had contributed funds to the Fair. The number of student projects has increased from 110 in 2004 to 288 in 2007. Each year has also seen an increase in both the number of schools and the number of school districts represented at the Science Fair. Teachers and schools who had dropped science fairs from their programs have revived school and district level science fairs now that they are assured that their students

have an opportunity to advance to a regional science fair that is a stepping stone to state and national level competition.

AFCEA Hampton Roads Chapter members have led the way in supporting the Tidewater Regional Science Fair by contributing more than 80% of total funds donated since 2004.

Please consider a corporate or personal donation to support this year’s Tidewater Science Fair. For further details, check the Tidewater Regional Science Fair page at the Chapter website:

http://www.afceahamptonroads.org/tidewater_regional_sci ence_fair.htm or contact the Scholarship/Education Programs Committee Chairman, John Oakes by telephone at 757-748-8560 or by e-mail addressed to
