Jesus calls us to be a Lutheran community gathered around Word and Sacrament and sends us to reach the lost, disciple the saved, and care for our neighbors everywhere.

Welcome to worship in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! If you are a guest with us

today we would like to extend a special greeting from our family. We invite you to worship with us; sing with us; pray with us; believe with us; for God has sent His Son to bring life and salvation. The ushers will be glad to answer any questions you have. If you have special prayer requests or would like a visit they will also be able to assist you. Please sign our guest book before you depart today. Make worship and Bible study the center of your weekly life. Be here each Sunday, that we may rejoice in the Lord together! May God bless us!

FOR THOSE WHO DESIRE TO RECEIVE THE LORD’S SUPPER

The Sacrament of the Altar (Holy Communion, The Lord’s Supper) is a sacred act estab-lished by Christ Himself and given to the whole Church. God’s Word teaches: “Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and

drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.” (I Cor. 11:28

-29) Therefore, in accordance with Holy Scripture, and out of loving concern for all, we believe that those who commune should:

a. Be baptized Christians who have been instructed in God’s Word, especially regarding the Sacrament;

(3)

3 b. Confess and sincerely repent of all their sins; (1 John 1:8,9);

c. Believe that through the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus, God forgives their sins and gives them newness of life (Isaiah 53:4-6; Romans 6:23; II Cor. 5:17)

d. Believe that in and with the bread and wine, they receive in a miraculous way, not merely a symbol, but the true Body and Blood of Christ, for the forgiveness of their sins and the strengthening of their faith. (I Cor. 10:16; Matthew 26:28)

e. Recognize that participation at His table is a “proclaiming of the Lord’s death” (I Cor 11:26) and indicates a public agreement and unity with the Biblical teaching of the Sacrament, and the faith we confess in this congregation.

In Christian love and care, and because of pastoral responsibility, anyone who wishes to commune with the St. Paul family and is not a confirmed member of St. Paul or a sister LC-MS congregation, please speak to the pastor or an elder before participating in the Lord’s Supper.

Non-alcoholic individual cups are in the center of each communion tray.

Unconfirmed adults and children may come to the altar for a blessing. They are invited to remain standing to receive a blessing.

As Lutherans we believe and teach that:

People are saved by God’s grace alone. This grace is revealed to and bestowed on us

through Jesus Christ. It is through the merits of Christ alone and not by our works that God forgives our sins and grants us eternal life.

It is through faith alone that we receive forgiveness of sin and salvation. This faith is

created, renewed and sustained by the Holy Spirit through God’s Word and sacraments.

Scripture aloneis the basis for all Christian doctrine, for it is God’s Word; inspired

by Him and thus infallible. It is our sole authority. The doctrines formed in Scripture we believe are correctly set forth in the Lutheran Confessions (statements of belief). As a Christian family we invite you to learn more about our Lord Jesus Christ. If you are without a church home in the area and are looking for a warm, Christ centered caring fami-ly where the Word is proclaimed, and God is exalted; we invite you to be with us. We look forward to getting to know you better and ministering to your needs.

P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

C Mostmerciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have

sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. [John 20:19-23]

9 OLD TESTMENT READING

1 Samuel 3:1–20

1The young man Samuel was ministering to the LORD under Eli. And the word of

the LORD was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.

2At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see,

was lying down in his own place. 3The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and

Sam-uel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was.

4Then the LORDcalled Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!” 5and ran to Eli and

said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down.

6And the LORDcalled again, “Samuel!” and Samuel arose and went to Eli and

said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down

again.” 7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had

not yet been revealed to him.

8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli

and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD was

calling the young man. 9Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls

you, you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay

down in his place.

10And the LORDcame and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”

And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”

After the reading:

P This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

. EPISTLE

1 Corinthians 6:12–20

12“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are

law-ful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything. 13“Food is meant for the

stom-ach and the stomstom-ach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The

body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the

body. 14And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15Do you

not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of

Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16Or do you not know that

he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written,

“The two will become one flesh.” 17But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one

spirit with him. 18Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is

outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19Or

do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom

you have from God? You are not your own, 20for you were bought with a price. So

glorify God in your body. After the reading:

P This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

11 HOLY GOSPEL

John 1:43-51

P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the first chapter.

43The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him,

“Follow me.” 44Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

45Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses

in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

46Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said

to him, “Come and see.” 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of

him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48Nathanael said

to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you,

when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49Nathanael answered him,

“Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50Jesus answered

him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You

will see greater things than these.” 51And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to

you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descend-ing on the Son of Man.”

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

NICENE CREED

C I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth

and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God,

begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light,

very God of very God, begotten, not made,

being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man;

and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried.

And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven

13 and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life (+) of the world to come. Amen.

SERVICE OF THE SACRAMENT

PREFACE

P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; for what had been hidden from before the foundation of the world You have made known to the nations in Your Son. In Him, being found in the substance of our mortal nature, You have manifested the fullness of Your glory. Therefore with angels and arch-angels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

SANCTUS — Holy, Holy, Holy Isaiah 6:3; Matthew 21:9

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING LSB 178

P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the

all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross.

Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

LORD’S PRAYER Matthew 6:9-13 Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

THE WORDS OF OUR LORD

P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is

My (+) body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.”

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My (+) blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.

New Zoom Bible Study

New Wednesday 7 pm Zoom Bible study begins January 13. The study will focus on the

Biblical accounts of people like Deborah, Job, David, Elijah, Jonah, and Esther, exploring the joys and challenges each person faced, and reading about how God forgave, sustained, and strengthened that person to serve Him. Join us to learn more about these Heroes of the Faith and hopefully grow also in your own faith by seeing in new ways how God blesses and strengthens you in your daily life and activities. 23 Dear friends,

I hope you will join us again this Spring as we start a new Bible study series, Heroes of the Faith, which will look at men and women in the Bible who overcame extraordinary diffi-culties and their stories which show how God chooses ordinary people, people like you and me, to do his extraordinary work.

I anticipate this will be about a 4 month series, focusing on the Biblical accounts of people like Deborah, Job, David, Elijah, Jonah, and Esther. As we read selected accounts from Scripture, we will explore the joys and challenges each person faced, and show how God forgave, sustained, and strengthened that person to serve Him. My prayer is this study will help you see in new ways how God blesses and strengthens you in your daily life and activ-ities.

Our first Bible study will be on January 13, at 7 pm ET via Zoom. I will send out another

email in a couple days with the Zoom meeting invite and provide some additional context in preparation for our first study.

As always, feel free to extend this invitation to friends or family. Please let me know also if your email preferences need to be updated.

Blessings and peace in this New Year, Cameron St. Paul Families,

We have enjoyed the blessings of being able to worship together on-site these past several months amid the pandemic. As the pandemic continues to surge the best way to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus during our time of worship and fellowship at our church

is to do home health screenings before you visit our campus.

If you have any COVID-19 like symptoms, suspect you have been exposed to COVID-19, or know you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please stay at home. We will be adding live streaming of Sunday morning and the Christmas Ser-vices. Services will continue to be available for viewing any time after the service online. The questions below can guide your decision on attending in-person worship at St. Paul. At Home Screening Questions

1. Since last at St. Paul Church, have you or an immediate family member had any of the following symptoms?

(24)

A. Cough

B. Shortness of Breath

C. Difficulty breathing

D. New loss of taste or smell

E. Fever of 100.4 degrees or higher (unmedicated) F. Chills or shaking chills

G. Muscle aches

H. Sore throat, headache I. Nausea or vomiting J. Diarrhea

K. Fatigue

L. Congestion or runny nose

If YES, you must not come to St. Paul Church until you are symptom free (unmedicated)

24 hours.

2. In the last 14 days, have you or a family member had close contact (within 6 feet for a

cumulative of 15 minutes over a 24 hour period) with anyone diagnosed with

COVID-19 or suspected of having COVID-COVID-19? If yes, you must not come to St. Paul Church

and School. You may return after completing quarantine for 14 days from the date of last exposure to the person with COVID-19 or suspected of having COVID-19 unless instructed by a health care provider/health department to quarantine longer.

Your diligence in this matter is appreciated and will serve to protect our St. Paul Commu-nity.
