RENEWABLE ENERGY POTENTIAL

The

Natural Resources Defense Council

offers data concerning renewable energy potential by state & county at

https://www.nrdc.org/energy/renewables/default.asp

. Its interactive tool allows a user to

measure a state or region’s renewable energy potential in the areas of wind, solar, cellulosic biomass, or biogas.

Although the Southwest region possesses modest potential in wind & solar, the potential for renewable energy production in cellulosic biomass & biomass is high – this indicates possible opportunities for

increased employment in these areas in the future.

The following tables display green jobs* data, including jobs from 2010 to 2015, annual openings, the education level or amount of experience required, & the median hourly wage. The numbers on

completions by institution within the tables are program completions tied to a particular occupation – as such many of the programs correspond to multiple occupations. The 1

st

figure displayed within each

section displays this information –

Completions by Occupation by Institution

. Subsequent figures provide information by CIP code –

Completions by CIP Code by Institution

– unlike

completions by occupation

,

these numbers are not redundant.

Tabulated data by CIP code is available in this document’s sister

Excel

file. Schools are color coded by state as follows:

NW Arkansas

/

SW Missouri

/

SE Kansas

/

NE Oklahoma

Following the figures are ONET-CIP crosswalks mapping each sector’s jobs to specific programs – the region’s top programs are displayed in bold.

*

The jobs in the following sections are of six-digit SOC classification corresponding to the O*NET-SOC taxonomy (up to 8 digit). For more information on the O*NET-SOC taxonomy, please visit
