Field Education Database Search

There are a few ways you can view Field Education Sites and Placements. You will still need to meet with your field education advisors, but now you can arrive with ideas to discuss.

To get to the main page:

1. Go to the PTS Website www.ptsem.edu. 2. On the top bar select ACADEMICS.

3. Select Field Education (little side menu pops out).

4. At the middle of the page, go to For Students “Click here”

5. Bookmark/favorite this page for future uses.

https://tns-apps.ptsem.edu/fieldeducation_Search/PlacementSearch_Login.aspx 6. Login with your seminary information

Welcome to the Field Education Site Search!

The table below gives a brief description of what each button does. We are working on adding more listings for distance from PTS, car required etc. For now, you can use the Database Search to create these lists.

Manual search based on criteria - Search engine for any approved site based on the criteria you select (see Database details below).

Common Searches – A-Z buttons show up as lists, Map buttons give you a google map with pins, Demographics lets you list the sites by the congregation makeup

List Format

All lists appear with the same information shown below:

Click “View Site Detail” to see the information entered in our system. The information opens in a separate window, so make sure you allow pop-ups.

• The first piece of information you see on the new page lets you know when each section of information was last updated.

Click “Visit Website” to go directly to the sites web address. (If the site did not provide a website, an error page displays.) Location gives the state the site is in.

(If the site did not fill out that information, a “0” appears.)

The “Church Site” column puts “N” for non-churches and “C” for churches.

IMPORTANT: a site marked church does not necessarily meet the field education church requirement. That is determined by the placement description at that site.

Demographics

We ask for a basic ethnicity break-down from each site. Some sites, many non-church ones, serve a fluctuating population and select Not Applicable. Those sites will not appear below. Select a demographic group from the drop-down box and all sites containing a percentage of the selected group will appear (ranked in descending order by the selected group).

(4)

Google Maps

All approved sites that provided an address are marked on one of two google maps. The commute distance map goes on two pages. Click the next button at the bottom to see those pin points.

The list on the left currently goes from closest to PTS to farthest from PTS. As new sites are added, they will end up at the end of the list. (At somepoint they will be re-sorted by distance, but not right away, so always check the second page for new sites.) You can click on the site name in the column or on the pin-points to see further information on the site. Most include some contact infromation (phone number, website etc.).

Database Search

Here you can take control of your placement search by selecting the criteria you desire in a site/placement. Please keep in mind that the sites with incomplete information may not show up in a search, so start with a broad search and narrow from there.

Search Options:

• Site Characteristics: name, rural or urban, size

• Site Denomination: by a group (All Baptist) or specific (Southern Baptist Convention) • Overall Location: single state with city or multiple states

• PTS Proximity: how far in minutes or miles • Supervisor Characteristics: gender, name

• Placement Characteristics: time period, special program, car required, church placement requirement, church or non-church, ministry focus

• Items To Show: choose display columns for results chart

Below is a basic results chart with just the default selections from “Items to Show”. (The five items marked below are always shown.)

1. Placement Title: a basic name of the individual placement at a certain site 2. Site Name: may appear more than once as a site can have multiple placements

3. Available/Filled: how many students can fill the placement and how many are taken. In the future we will have a selection to block out placements that are completely filled. 4. Show Selections: the items checked will appear on the profile when you click view. 5. View tab: Click to see the details on the placement. They will open in a separate

window, so make sure pop-up blockers are disabled.

If a column is empty for a particular site, they did not fill out the information in the database. Now just read the profiles and see what you can find!

New features and information will be implemented during the year, so feel free to ask questions 1
