SAFETY BY DESIGN

8.40 WORKSHOP: Safety in Design

Good design is always implied where safety is considered but even those who are well intentioned still lack guidance on what really constitutes a safe design & a Safe Design process. Design is multi faceted and multi disciplined and invokes various opinions.

This Stream provides a facilitated open forum that will encourage discussion on the questions related to SiD. It will be introduced by thought provoking comment from a panel of Safety & Design professionals and then stimulate and collect knowledge and ideas around: the breadth of the SiD field; it's length by way of considering what is and what is not included; and then, time permitting, work on what should be included in a scope definition that supports a suitable set of Safe Design titles. It is hoped that this will provide a platform for future detailed research and discussion to formulate the body of knowledge for designers, engineers and the Generalist OHS Professional. Whatever the outcome, this will be a lively exchange of knowledge that should not be missed Session Moderator: Dr John Culvenor, Independent consultant in ergonomics and occupational safety
