Descendants of Johann B Ottinger

There are two connections between the Ottinger family and the Schooler family. The first is a marriage between John Henry Ottinger and Iona Elizabeth Schooler. The second is indirectly through the Harmon family. Carl Ottinger married Mary Harmon, and Charles Butler Schooler married Mary’s sister, Olive Harmon.

More About Carl Ottinger:

In 1906 Carl moved from Tennessee to Indiana. He worked on the first oil line through Boone County, Indiana. He roomed with Fielders 3 miles east of Lebanon and was paid 45 cents a day ($13.50/month) for his room and board. He went to work on a hay type wagon. His part of the $1,000 from the sale of his parents’ farm in 1907 (see notes on his father in the previous generation) was sent to him. He bought a buggy for $110 and a horse for $125.

Afterwards he was a farmer and remembered threshing with horse power. In 1914, he and Mary built a 6-

room house on the south side of County Road 650 S east of County Road 650 E in Boone County, Indiana,

since demolished, where each lived out their lives; the carpenter was Jim Winters.
