2007-08 TEAM NOTES

NO BASKETBALL FOR OLD MEN

The Grizzlies have gone with a youth movement this season and as a result have one of the youngest rotations in the NBA… Memphis is

the only NBA team who has

seven

players 25 years old or younger logging at least

12

minutes per game… Twenty-one year-old

Rudy

Gay

leads the team in minutes (

37.7

) while the No. 4 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft

Mike Conley

(20),

Kyle Lowry

(21),

Darko Milicic

(23),

Hakim Warrick

(25),

Kwame Brown

(25) and

Javaris Crittenton

(20) have all seen significant time… Despite being 27 years old,

Spanish guard

Juan Carlos Navarro

is playing his first season in the NBA… In the past

four

games, the Grizzlies have used the rookie

tandem of Conley and Navarro as their starting backcourt… Here’s a look at how the Grizzlies’ youth and how their regular rotation stacks

The Grizzlies’ roster has changed drastically since opening night, with four players who were on the roster for the first game of the season

Pau Gasol

,

Damon Stoudamire

,

Stromile Swift

and

Tarence Kinsey

– now playing elsewhere…

Bobby Jones

and

Jeremy

Richardson

were signed to 10-day contracts but were not tendered guaranteed contracts, while the team has since acquired veterans in

Jason Collins

Kwame Brown

and

Aaron McKie

as well as rookie

Javaris Crittenton

… The team also acquired

Marcus Vinicius

from

the New Orleans Hornets in a three-team trade on the final day before the NBA Trade Deadline on Feb. 21… Vinicius was waived on Feb.

23… All in all, 19 players have donned Grizzlies jerseys this season (not including McKie, who has not seen action, and Vinicius, who was

waived immediately).

OFF TO THE RACES

Grizzlies Head Coach

Marc Iavaroni

promised to bring a high-scoring, fast-paced offensive system to Memphis, much like he did in his five

previous seasons with the Phoenix Suns (including the last three-and-a-half as

Mike D’Antoni

’s lead assistant) and so far has done little to

disappoint… The Grizzlies are averaging

99.7

points per game, behind last season’s club record 101.6 scoring average… In the franchise’s

12-year history, the Grizzlies have ranked as one of the NBA’s 10 best scoring teams just four times and have never cracked the top five. ..

averages in nearly every category, including points per game (10.8), rebounds per game (4.5), assists per game (1.3), field goal
