Kainuu Orienteering Week celebrates the 50th anniversary week in
traditional athmosphere and the event will be held in Kuhmo in the
end of july 25.-30.7.2017. Competition centre is located about 20
kilometres from Kuhmo to south (road 75) and the area called ”Rasti”
(in english control point). There has been an orienteering event in the
same area in 1970´s.
Anniversary week will be held in great and versatile orienteering terrain in the middle of traditional Finnish and Kainuu region countryside. Competition centre is in the courtyard of the farm which is located on the top of the hill offering great landscapes to the wilderness.
Competition terrain will consist varied ter-rains and an all-round experience of the Ka-inuu landscape. In addition to its typical sol-id ground, the terrain ranges from craggy hillsides with small features to varied forests and vegetation, greatest variations in alti-tude are between 40-50 metres. All-in-all the orienteering area is very versatile and
for more experienced orienteers there are also very demanding terrains and orienteer-ing tasks. The competition tracks are planned so that the best parts of the terrain will be offered for the all of the competition categories. The competition terrain in Rasti area offers courses suitable for all levels. The course setters have large experience from several previous events, including the Kainuu Orienteering Week 2011.
Competition maps are designed by the pro-fessional mapping company Mapline Oy (for ex. WOC2013 official mapping company).

Kuhmo’s nature type is Wild Taiga, where the landscapes and the magnificent fauna are incomparable to any other place on earth. The diversity of nature and Kuhmo chamber music culture are the strengths of Kuhmo, and those things cannot be transferred to anywhere else in the world. Kuhmo’s tourism supply is also built on the attraction of Nature. Kuhmo also offers excellent settings for orienteering and other outdoor activities, and nature tourism is an impor-tant tourism sector for Kuhmo. Certainly the settings for orienteering event are good in Kuhmo.
Events are important for Kuhmo’s businesses, local and leisure residents and visitors. Kainuu Orienteering Week, organized this year in Kuhmo, is one of the major events of the year. Other traditional summer events are Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival and Sommelo Folk Music Festival.
Events have been highlighted in the strategy programme of Kuhmo. The strategy programme of Kuhmo was updated at the end of last year. We have defined a new strategy vision in it and it goes as follows: “Kuhmo, the paradise of living and leisure”.

Distances in this serie are in every day between 10-12 kilometres so in total for four competition days C-ultra runners will have over 40 km of orienteering. Orienteering tasks are very easy in this serie so runners can enjoy the footpaths and great sceneries.
