(2) Y. X. Gao, S. Kumar and Z. H. Zhou. 586. In particular, let ϕ be an analytic self-map of D such that ϕ∗ ∈ Lpβ , p ≥ 1, β > 0. In [10], H. Hunziker characterized the self-maps ϕ of the unit disk for which the composition operator Cϕ : H p → Lpβ is order bounded. In this context, Cϕ f is supposed the boundary function (f ◦ ϕ)∗ . In this paper, we focus on weighted composition operators acting on the Dirichlet type spaces. In contrast, the Dirichlet type spaces include functions that have no boundary values. Thus a discussion of order bounded weighted composition operators on Dirichlet type spaces will require the assumption that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure m. The composition operator Cϕ on Hardy space or weighted Bergman spaces was investigated in [4]. Within setting of composition operators the order boundedness is connected with the boundedness or the compactness of them. For instance, H. Hunziker and H. Jarchow [11] proved that for β ≥ 1, the order boundedness of Cϕ : H p → Lβp (∂D, m) implies the compactness of Cϕ : H p → Lβp , where m is the normalized Lebesgue measure on the unit circle ∂D. So the order boundedness is also an interesting subject in the study of composition operators. R. A. Hibschweiler [9] studied the order bounded weighted composition operators mapping into Lβp (∂D, m). Recently Ueki [18] has studied the order boundedness of weighted composition operators on Bergman spaces. In this article, we characterize the order bounedeness of weighted composition operators on Dirichlet type spaces. Recall that for 1 ≤ p < ∞, the classical Hardy space Hp consists of analytic functions f on D, for which the norm f H p =. . . 2π. sup. 0≤r<1. 0. |f (reiθ )|p. dθ p1 2π. is finite.. If p = ∞, H∞ is the space of analytic functions f on D such that f H ∞ = sup |f (z)| < ∞. z∈D. Fatou’s theorem asserts that any Hardy function f has radial limit at eiθ ∈ ∂D except on a set Lebesgue measure zero. Throughout this work, f (eiθ ) will denote the radial limit of f at eiθ , i.e., f (eiθ ) = lim f (reiθ ). Let dA(z) = r→1−. 1 π dxdy 2 α. denote the normalised Lebesgue area measure. on D. Also, let dAα (z) = (1 + α) (1 − |z| ) dA(z) denote the weighted Lebesgue area measure on D, where −1 < α < ∞. For 0 < p < ∞ and −1 < α < ∞, the weighted Bergman space Lp,α a consists of those functions f analytic on D such that p1 p f Lp,α = |f (z)| dA (z) < ∞. α a D. If α = 0, we get the Bergman space Lpa . For 0 < p < ∞ and −1 < α < ∞, the spaces of Dirichlet type Dαp consist of those functions f analytic on D such that f Dαp =. p1 |f (0)|p + |f (z)|p dAα (z) < ∞. D.
(3) Order Bounded Weighted Composition Operators Mapping into the Dirichlet Type Spaces. 587. 2 That is, f ∈ Dαp if and only if f ∈ Lp,α a . For α = 0, the spaces D0 is the classical Dirichlet. space. For other values of p and α, the spaces Dαp have been extensively studied in number of papers (see [6–7, 15, 19]). The spaces Dαp are called Dirichlet spaces if p ≥ α + 1. For α = 0, the space D02 is the classical Dirichlet space. If p < α + 1, then it is well known that Dαp = Lp,α−p a (see [5, Theorem 6]). Also D12 equals to the Hardy spaces H 2 . Further, Dαp ⊂ Dαq , if 1 ≤ q < p. On the other hand, we have p ⊂ H p, Dp−1. 0<p≤2. (1.1). 2≤p<∞. (1.2). and p H p ⊂ Dp−1 ,. and the inclusions are strict when p
(4) = 2. The inclusion (1.1) for 1 ≤ p ≤ 2 can be proved by Riesz-Thorin Theorem and the case 0 < p < 1 has been proved by Flett in [5]. The inclusion (1.1) follows by a classical result due to Littlewood and Paley [13], see also the proof by Luecking [14]. It is also well known that, for every p, the Hardy space H p is contained in the p p Bergman space A2p. This is also true for the spaces Dp−1 , that is, we have H p ⊂ Dp−1 ⊂ A2p p p for 2 ≤ p < ∞ and Dp−1 ⊂ H p ⊂ A2p for 0 < p ≤ 2. If 0 < p ≤ 2 and f ∈ Dp−1 , then f ∈ H p p and so f has non-tangential limit a.e. T. Therefore we have that if 0 < p ≤ 2 and f ∈ Dp−1 ,. then |f (reiθ )| = O(1) as r → 1− for a.e. eiθ ∈ T. Zygmund proved in [23] that if f is an analytic function in D, then 0. r. |f (ρeit )|dρ = o log. 1 12 , 1−r. as r → 1−. (1.3). for almost every point eit in the Fatou set of f, Ff , which consists of those eiθ ∈ T such that f has a finite non-tangential limit at eiθ . Then obviously, (1.3) implies |f (reit )| = o log. 1 12 , 1−r. as r → 1− .. (1.4). An analytic function f on D is said to belong to the Bloch-type space Bβ (D) = Bβ if B(f ) = sup(1 − |z|2 )β |f (z)| < ∞. z∈D. The expression B(f ) defines a semi-norm while a natural norm is given by f Bβ = |f (0)| + B(f ). It makes Bβ into a Banach space.. 2 Order Boundedness In this section, we characterize the order boundedness of weighted composition operators Wh,ϕ acting between Dirichlet type spaces. Before formulating and proving the results, we first give some auxiliary results..
(5) Y. X. Gao, S. Kumar and Z. H. Zhou. 588. For any 0 < p < ∞, α > −1. Let δz (f ) = f (z) for f ∈ Dαp and z ∈ D. The following point evaluation estimate is frequently used in this area: If 0 < p < ∞, p < α + 2, α > −1 and f ∈ Dαp , we have |f (z)| ≤ Cp,α. f Dαp 1. (1 − |z|2 ) p (α+2−p). z ∈ D.. ,. (2.1). We also have the following lemma. Lemma 2.1 Suppose c > −1 and d ≥ 0. Let (1 − |w|2 )c dA(w) Jc,d (z) = . |1 − zω|2+c+d D Then we have the following asymptotic properties: (1) If d > 0, then Jc,d (z) . 1 . (1 − |z|2 )d. (2) If d = 0, then Jc,d (z) log. 1 . 1 − |z|2. Now we can prove the following lemma. Lemma 2.2 For 0 < p < α + 2 and α > −1, then there are positive constants C1 and C2 depending only on α and p such that C1 (1 −. |z|2 ). α+2−p p. ≤ δz ≤. C2 (1 − |z|2 ). α+2−p p. .. Proof By the equation (2.1), we have |f (z)| ≤ C2. f Dαp 1. (1 − |z|2 ) p (α+2−p). ,. where C2 depends only on α and p and f ∈ Dαp . This yields the second inequality. For the remaining inequality, let fz (w) =. (1 − |z|2 ) (1 − z¯w). α+2 p. 2α+4−p p. ,. |z| < 1.. Then by using Lemma 2.1, we can find C1 > 0 such that fz Dαp ≤ C1 . Therefore, δz ≥. 1 |fz (z)| ≥ C1 fz Dαp 1 − |z|2. α+2−p p. .. The next theorem is our first equivalent condition of the order boundedness of Wh,ϕ acting on Dαp . Theorem 2.1 Suppose 0 < p, q < ∞, p < α + 2 and α > −1. Let h ∈ Lq (m) and ϕ be an analytic self-map of the unit disk such that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. [m]. Then the following are equivalent:.
(6) Order Bounded Weighted Composition Operators Mapping into the Dirichlet Type Spaces. 589. (i) Wh,ϕ : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded; (ii). h. 1 (α+2−p). (1−|ϕ∗ |2 ) p. ∈ Lq (m).. Proof Suppose that. h (1−|ϕ∗ |2 ). α+2−p p. ∈ Lq (m). Since |ϕ∗ (eiθ )|< 1 a.e. [m], then by Lemma. 2.2, there is a constant C depending only on p and α such that |f (ϕ∗ (eiθ ))| ≤ C(1 − |ϕ∗ (eiθ )|2 ). −(α+2−p) p. a.e. [m] for all f with f Dαp ≤ 1. Let t(eiθ ) = C|h(eiθ )|(1 − |ϕ∗ (eiθ )|2 ). −(α+2−p) p. .. Then clearly t ∈ Lq (m) by hypothesis and previous inequality implies that |h(eiθ )f (ϕ∗ (eiθ ))| ≤ t(eiθ ) a.e. [m]. Thus Wh,ϕ : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded. Next suppose that Wh,ϕ : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded. Then there exists t ∈ Lq (m), t ≥ 0 with t(eiθ ) ≥ |h(eiθ )f (ϕ∗ (eiθ ))| a.e. [m] for all f with f Dαp ≤ 1. Thus by Lemma 2.2, the inequality t(eiθ ) ≥ |h(eiθ )| sup{|δϕ∗(eiθ ) (f )| : f Dαp ≤ 1} = |h(eiθ )| · δϕ∗ (eiθ ) ≥ C|h(eiθ )|(1 − |ϕ∗ (eiθ )|2 ) It follows that. h (1−|ϕ∗ |2 ). α+2−p p. −(α+2−p) p. holds a.e. [m].. ∈ Lq (m).. Remark 2.1 It is easy to check that under the condition of Theorem 2.1, h (1 −. |ϕ∗ |2 ). α+2−p p. ∈ Lq (m). if and only if h (1 − |ϕ∗ |). α+2−p p. ∈ Lq (m).. Even though the requirements in Theorem 2.1 seem strong, the result is still useful in many nontrivial cases. Example 2.1 Let ϕ(z) = 12 (1 + z) and h(eiθ ) = 1 − cos θ2 . Then 2π 2π dθ dθ = = ∞. ∗ 1 − |ϕ | 1 − cos θ2 0 0 Thus we can know that the composition operator Cϕ is not order bounded from D22 into L1 (m). However, the behavior of h near the point 1 guarantees that 2π h dθ = 2π < ∞, 1 − |ϕ∗ | 0 so Wh,ϕ is order bounded from D22 into L1 (m), with the help of the weight h. On the other hand, if we take ϕ(z) = 12 (1 − z), then even though with the same weight h, Wh,ϕ is no longer order bounded from D22 into L1 (m)..
(7) Y. X. Gao, S. Kumar and Z. H. Zhou. 590. In fact, this example shows that the order boundedness of Wh,ϕ is determined by h and ϕ together in the way we show in Theorem 2.1. Corollary 2.1 Suppose 0 < p < α + 2 and α > −1. Let h ∈ Lq (m) and ϕ be an analytic self-map of the unit disk such that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. [m]. Then the following are equivalent: (i) Wh,ϕ : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded; (ii) Wh,ϕn : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded for some n ∈ N∗ ; (iii) Wh,ϕn : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded for each n ∈ N∗ ; Proof By using Theorem 2.1 and the inequality that 1 − |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| ≤ 1 − |(ϕ∗ )n (eiθ )| ≤ n(1 − |ϕ∗ (eiθ )|), we get the desired result. Remark 2.2 Suppose that h ∈ L∞ , ϕ is an analytic self-map of the unit disk such that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. [m] and Wh,ϕ : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded for some α > −1. By Theorem 2.1,. h. 1 (α+2−p). (1−|ϕ∗ |) p. . 2π. . |h|. (α+2−p)q. |h| 1. (1 − |ϕ∗ |) p. 0. Thus. ∈ Lq (m). If we can even require α + 1 > p, then it follows that. 1. (1−|ϕ∗ |) p. dm < h(α+1−p)q ∞. . 2π 0. |h|q (1 − |ϕ∗ |). (α+2−p)q p. dm < ∞.. ∈ L(α+2−p)q .. Now if α = p − 2, then Dαp = Bp , the Besov space. Whenever f ∈ Dαp , for α = p − 2, α > −1 and 1 < p < ∞, we have the following inequality: 2 1− p1 |f (z)| ≤ C log . 1 − |z|. (2.2). Moreover, we have the following lemma. Lemma 2.3 Let 0 < p < ∞, α = p − 2 and α > −1. Then there are positive constants C1 and C2 depending only on p such that 2 1− p1 2 1− p1 C1 log ≤ δz ≤ C2 log . 1 − |z| 1 − |z| Proof The existence of C2 follows directly from (2.2). Now take fz (w) = . 2 log 1−zw 2 log 1−|z| 2. p1 ,. |z| < 1.. Then by using Lemma 2.1, we can find C1 > 0 such that fz Dαp < C1 . Therefore, we obtain δz ≥. 2 1− p1 |fz (z)| > C1 log . fz Dαp 1 − |z|. The proof of the following theorem is almost similar to Theorem 2.1, so we omit the details..
(8) Order Bounded Weighted Composition Operators Mapping into the Dirichlet Type Spaces. 591. Theorem 2.2 Suppose 0 < p, q < ∞, α = p − 2 and α > −1. Let h ∈ Lq (m) and ϕ be an analytic self-map of the unit disk such that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. [m]. Then the following are equivalent: (i) Wh,ϕ : Dαp → Lq (m) is order bounded; (ii). h. (log. 1 −1 2 )p 1−|z|. ∈ Lq (m).. Now let’s turn to the Hardy and Bergman spaces. We also begin with the following well known lemma. Lemma 2.4 Suppose 0 < p < ∞. Let δz1 and δz2 denote the point evaluation functional in H p and Ap respectively. Then we have δz1 . 1 1. (1 − |z|2 ) p. and δz2 . 1 2. (1 − |z|2 ) p. .. Again, by imitating the proof of Theorem 2.1, we get the following equivalent conditions. Theorem 2.3 Suppose 0 < p, q < ∞. Let h ∈ Lq (m) and ϕ be an analytic self-map of the unit disk such that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. [m]. Then the following are equivalent: (i) Wh,ϕ : H p → Lq (m) is order bounded; (ii) Wh,ϕ : A2p → Lq (m) is order bounded; (iii). h. 1. (1−|ϕ∗ |) p. ∈ Lq (m).. Finally in this section, we give the following results as corollaries of Theorems 2.1–2.3. Corollary 2.2 Suppose 0 < p, q < ∞. Let h ∈ Lq (m) and ϕ be an analytic self-map of the unit disk such that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. [m]. Then composition operator Wh,ϕ : H p → Lq (m) is p order bounded if and only if Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Lq (m) is order bounded.. Corollary 2.3 Fix 0 < p < ∞ and h ∈ Lq (m). Let ϕ be an analytic self-map of the unit disk such that |ϕ∗ (eiθ )| < 1 a.e. [m]. Then the following are equivalent: p (i) Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Lq (m) is order bounded;. (ii). h. 1. (1−|ϕ∗ |) p. ∈ Lq (m).. p q 3 Order Boundedness of Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Dq−1. In this section, we characterize the order boundedness of weighted composition operators Wh,ϕ acting between Dirichlet type spaces. Recall that in this case, Wh,ϕ is order bounded if q and only if we can find g ∈ Lq (Aq−1 ), g ≥ 0 such that for all f ∈ Dq−1 , f ≤ 1, we have. |Wh,ϕ (f ) (z)| ≤ g(z),. a.e. [Aq−1 ]..
(9) Y. X. Gao, S. Kumar and Z. H. Zhou. 592. The proof of the following lemma follows similar lines as the proof of Lemma 3.2 of [8]. So we omit the proof. Lemma 3.1 Let 0 < p < ∞ and z ∈ D. Then the following hold: p p (i) sup{|f (z)| : f ∈ Dp−1 , f Dp−1 ≤ 1} =. 1. p p (ii) sup{|f (z)| : f ∈ Dp−1 , f Dp−1 ≤ 1} =. ;. 1. (1−|z|2 ) p 1 (1−|z|2 ). 1+p p. .. Theorem 3.1 Let 0 < p, q < ∞. If h and ϕ satisfy the condition |h (z)|q |h(z)|q |ϕ (z)|q dAq−1 (z) < ∞, q dAq−1 (z) + q(1+p) D (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ) p D (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ) p p q then Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Dq−1 is bounded. p Proof Let f ∈ Dp−1 and z ∈ D. Then by Lemma 3.1, we have. |(Wh,ϕ f (z)) | = |(h(z)f (ϕ(z))) | ≤. |h (z)| (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). 1 p. p f Dp−1 +. |h(z)ϕ (z)| (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). (1+p) p. p f Dp−1 .. Therefore, (h(z)f (ϕ(z)))qDq q−1. ≤. |h (z)|q f q p D. p−1 q 2 p. (1 − |ϕ(z)| ). D. dAq−1 (z) +. |h(z)|q |ϕ (z)|q f q p D D. (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). p−1 q(1+p) p. dAq−1 (z).. Combining this with the assumption, we get the desired result. p q → Dq−1 Corollary 3.1 Let 0 < p, q < ∞. The weighted composition operator Wh,ϕ : Dp−1. is order bounded if D. . |h (z)|q. (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). q p. dAq−1 (z) +. |h(z)|q |ϕ (z)|q D. (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). q(1+p) p. dAq−1 (z) < ∞.. (3.1). p p Proof Suppose that condition (3.1) is true and take a function f ∈ Dp−1 with f Dp−1 ≤ 1.. p q It follows from Theorem 3.1 that Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Dq−1 is bounded. Moreover, as in the proof. of Theorem 3.1, we see that Lemma 3.1 gives |(Wh,ϕ f (z)) | = |(h(z)f (ϕ(z))) | ≤ Take g = |h |(1−|ϕ|2 ). −1 p. |h (z)| (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). +|hϕ |(1−|ϕ|2 ). 1 p. p f Dp−1 +. −(1+p) p. |h(z)ϕ (z)| (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). (1+p) p. p f Dp−1 .. . The condition (3.1) implies that g ∈ Lq (dAq−1 ). p q and g ≥ 0. That is, the weighted composition operator Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Dq−1 is order bounded. p q Theorem 3.2 Let 0 < p, q < ∞. If the weighted composition operator Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Dq−1. is order bounded, then . (10) Order Bounded Weighted Composition Operators Mapping into the Dirichlet Type Spaces. 593. p q Proof Since Wh,ϕ : Dp−1 → Dq−1 is order bounded, there exists a non-negative function p g ∈ Lq such that |(Wh,ϕ f (z)) | ≤ g(z) for all z ∈ D and for all f ∈ Dp−1 with f pDp. p−1. a.e. z ∈ D. Let. F (w) = Then. 1 − |ϕ(z)|2

So by taking w = z, we can get. h (z) (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ). 1 p. +. h(z)ϕ(z)ϕ (z). 1+p = |(Wh,ϕ f ) (z)| ≤ g(w). (1 − |ϕ(z)|2 ) p. Then the result follows directly since g ∈ Lq .
