Voting based contents delivery framework
Problem – There is a few good contents in the internet and far more not-so-good contents. For restricted resources of modern smart phone, we need a mechanism for selecting relatively good contents. Furthermore, amateur talents needs personal advertisement channel.
Solution – I adopted voting process as a filter for good contents by making voting process as an entertainment.
Good contents can have a chance to advertise their other contents, homepage, facebook or twitter ID. So contents consumer can have a contents list of good quality and the contents creator can have a chance to advertise. It’s motto is
"We help you find & connect your tribe" Though this project is for cat photo, this framework can be extended to the poem, friend photo, singing talents, short story and even for charity purpose.
Contribution – Idea generation, Specification, Server side programming using Ruby on rails framework, client side programming using objective C.
Purica 2009 Personal Concept project
Purica is a Zink-enabled digital camera for taking photos with a funnuy theme. Purica stands for ‘purikura + camera’. Purikura came from english work ‘print club’.
Teen age girls in Asia, whose personality and social relationship is very important, enjoy funny photo-sticker vending machine called Purikura(プリクラ).
Zink .Inc has developed interesting new technology which enables portable camera printer combination.
Intuinno proposes a better way of serving Purikura using Zink technology, thus creating unique business opportunity beneficial to the both parties of teen age girls and Zink-related businesses. parties.
The design solution is comprised of the device(purica) and the social network site(purica.net). Though the device looks Project List
similar to the previous polarnoid or Takara zink-enabled camera, one big difference is that the whole foucus is in making a fun or cute theme combined image of the users. It is basically portable purikura vending machine.
The social network site, purica.net, enables the sharing of the purikura like twitter. Once the user uploads his/her photo, he can send announcement to the friends who subscribe to the list by MMS. So her friends can see the purikura and leave comment using their mobile phone. Furthermore the theme pack expansion is possible for continuous enjoyment.
The meaning of our design solution is about helping teen-age girls making pretty & memorable experience with their friends.
TAP: Touch and Play 2003~2007 Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute
Problem - There are lots of devices waiting serve us in ubiquitous computing. However the real problem is that the devices don’t know what us as users want for them to do.
The paucity of the interface resource which is common these embedded devices, makes the situation worse. The use of menu hierarchy and multi modal buttons which functions differently according to the modes requires the thick manual and adds up to the mental load of users.
Solution - Using intrabody communication, the information can be transfered between hand and hand using human body as communication medium. Using this relatively new technology, an innovative context aware service is possible.
For example, if you touch the printer while you are seeing the photo in your mobile phone gripping it, the photo can be printed. This service can be extended like begining slideshow of the photos when you touch TV while seeing photos in mobile phone. Or the same playlist can be played in your stereo when you touch the stereo griping MP3. Or if you touch two laptops , the wi-fi adhoc network connection can be established to enable file sharing.

Results - This technology is patented and licensed to the Samsung electronics. And the result is published in CHI 2006 (Annual SIGCHI Conference: Human Factors in Computing Systems 2006, Montreal).
Podcaster 2006 Personal Project
Problem - Podcast is gaining popularity. There was about 150 thousand podcast program available to download in 2007 and the number is growing fast. So the problem assoiciated with finding suitable program is growing fast, too. Furthermore podcast as a communication medium is similar to the radio or TV. Thus the current solution like category browsing or searching is inappropriate for this kind of media, for the user is rather passive when using this media.
Solution - The user can be categorized according to the preference. If we have large database of user program, we can apply information mining technology. For example, if user likes A, B, and C program, we can propose D program which has high probability that user will like also. The proposed solution consists of device “Podcaster” and online server. The Podcaster looks like old vintage radio with big tuning dial and volume dial. It has built-in wi-fi capability and HDD or flash memory for data storage.
The tuning dial has about 10~12 channels. Channel is a compilation of podcast program based on the keyword. You can assign various keyword to the channel. For example, an specific program address to the business week podcast or
“business week” or even “business” keyword can be assigned to the specific channels. So for the user this “podcaster”
device has similar experience like conventional radio or TV, however this thing somehow plays his/her type of program only. There is two more button in remote control which is
“thumb up” and “thumb down”. The user can use this button to indicate his/her feedback to specific episode. This data will be used to enhance the recommendation algorithm for channel compilation.
AirBeat 2004~2007 Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute
Problem - Professional athletes have to train in the limit of their physical ability to maximize training effect. However this increase the danger of the injury or sometimes tragic accident, especially in a hot environment. So it is very important to monitor and control the load of training. The previous method includes chest belt type polar heart beat monitor and Wet Bulb Glove Temeperature (WBGT) instrument to monitor humidity and environmental temperature. However the athletes don’t like to wear chest belt because of the inconvenience of pressure. And the coaches does not have access to the information of the athletes in real-time. And for WBGT method only measures environmental condition while the condition can be even worse for athletes in suites as in American football.
Solution - An flexible adhesive patch type monitor has been developed for a training aid tool. Because of its form factor, it is more comfortable for user. And the current status of up to 16 players can be transmitted wirelessly to the coach within 300m range. The system measures the humidity, temperature, acceleration and heart beat rate. And the analysis algorithm is developed for agility and endurance index.
Muscleman 2001 Seoul National University (Medical Electronics Lab)
Problem - Fighting video game uses joystick and buttons for various skills. Balancing is important aspect of fun. Some skill is big in damage and takes long time to make and requires complex input sequence. However for beginners this complex input sequence is barrier to enjoy games.
Solution - A new device for human computer interaction, Muscleman, is developed. This device acquires the surface Electromyogram of the superficial flexor muscle in the forearm, and the acceleration signal
of the forearm's movement. The device can classify hook and straight punch motions of the forearm by analyzing the acceleration data. By analyzing the Electromyogram signal, the force exerted by the user can be measured and
used as input signal, even when there is no explicit movement of the forearm, as in the case of isometric muscle contraction.
By using this device the user can intuitively make various punching motions, such as a straight punch-like motion or upper cut-like motion. By using
muscle contraction as an indication of force the user can intuitively make a special charged attack, such as fireball.
Furthermore the muscle fatigue index can be measured and used to give feedback
Parasite Egg 2000 Seoul National University (Medical Electronics Laboratory)
Problem: Doctors hate to do mediocre job of detecting parasite eggs from fecal specimen using microscope.
Solution – We develop automatic detection algorithm from microscopic image using image processing technique and artificial neural network.
Contribution – Developing algorithm, implementation using Matlab programming
Result – Published in Medical Imaging Journal
