Juliet E. Boyd was born in Vereeninging, South Africa. Juliet attended the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English and International Relations. Juliet completed a year of study towards an LLB in Roman/Dutch law at the Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit in Johannesburg where she studied in Afrikaans. She obtained a J.D. from the University of Dayton in 1998.

Juliet is an experienced civil litigator and her practice is in the Circuit Courts of Cook and the collar counties and in Federal Court. Juliet was named in Illinois Super Lawyer, and Super Lawyer Corporate Counsel for 2009, 2010, and 2011 for business litigation. Juliet will also appear in the 2012 Super Lawyers Business Edition for litigation. Juliet was also named as one of Illinois’ top lawyers in the February 2011 edition of Chicago Magazine. Juliet has litigated cases involving contract disputes; the Residential Real Property Disclosure Act; specific performance of contracts; construction defects; the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Practices Act; equitable mortgages and condominium disputes. Juliet has litigated complex litigation actions involving RICO and fraud suits involving millions of dollars.

Juliet is also experienced in criminal law and has litigated cases ranging from first-degree murder, reckless homicide, aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated DUI to simple DUI cases. Juliet has litigated Operating Under The Influence (“O.U.I.”) cases involving boats and snowmobiles. She has represented clients in the trial and appellate courts, including the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Juliet is the past Chair of International and Immigration Law Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. She is currently the Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”) coordinator for the International and Immigration Law Section Council. Juliet is also the secretary of the Traffic Law Section Council. Juliet is a past member of the Civil Practice & Procedure Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. Juliet is a frequent speaker at seminars for CLE.. In addition, she has several articles published by the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Frank L. Burg is a certified safety professional and a registered professional safety engineer who has made occupational safety and health his life's work. Frank has a Master's Degree in Ergonomics from the University of Wisconsin, worked for OSHA for 18 years as a compliance officer, program director and trainer at the OSHA National Training Institute. He was Corporate Safety Director for Fishbach and Moore, Inc., a large electrical contractor. For the last seventeen years Frank has been President of Accident Prevention Corporation, a safety, health, and

environmental consulting firm, which provides training, loss control and expert testimony for industrial and construction clients. He has conducted keynote speaking assignments for well- known clients on subjects which include, “The future of OSHA”, “Ergonomics in the

Workplace”, Behavioral Approach to Safety and Health” and presented seminars and television broadcasts for OSHA and clients regarding safety and health standards. He has been appointed as a member of the Standards Development Committee (SDC) for ASSE, is Chairperson for Membership for ANSI A10, and serves as Chairperson for ANSI A10.28 “Work platforms Suspended from Cranes and Derricks, ANSI A10.40 “Ergonomics in Construction” and ANSI A10.49 “Health Hazards in the Construction Industry” standards committees. Dr. Giri T. Gireesan completed his medical education at Madurai Medical College in Madurai, India in 1972. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in 1976 and is licensed to practice medicine in Illinois and Indiana. Dr. Gireesan is an Orthopedic Surgeon and has worked at Northwestern Memorial Hospital since 1983. From 1984-1989, he also served as an Associate Director for the Midwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury Care System at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He has taught residents, Spine Fellows in techniques in spine surgery, including spine trauma, spine deformity, degenerative conditions of the spine, and spine tumors, including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Dr. Gireesan is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American Spine Injury Association, Illinois Orthopedic Association, and Chicago Medial Society.

Martin L. Glink earned his B.S. in Sociology at the University of Illinois and his J.D. (with honors) at the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. He was the American Jurisprudence Award Winner in Constitutional Law. Mr. Glink is the founder of the Law Office of Martin L. Glink in Arlington Heights. He handles significant personal injury, automobile, Workers’ Compensation Act, premises, product liability, construction injury and municipal tort liability cases. Clients also include those seriously injured by medical, hospital, and nursing home negligence. Mr. Glink has recovered many millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for the firm’s clients. He has argued cases before the Illinois Supreme Court and Appellate Courts. He has litigated in many counties throughout the state of Illinois.

Mr. Glink is the Co-Founder and Co-Organizer of the Suburban Bar Coalition for Judicial Evaluation Committee and Past President of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Decalogue Society of Lawyers, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, and the Leading Lawyers Network.

Hon. Russell W. Hartigan earned his B.S.C. in Commerce and his M.B.A. at DePaul University in 1970 and his Juris Doctorate at the John Marshall Law School in 1975. He was appointed Circuit Court Judge by Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court and has served the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Fifth Municipal District since March 2012. Prior to this, Judge Hartigan served the Circuit Court of Cook County’s First Municipal District. He has tried over 60 jury trials in State and Federal Court – both Plaintiff and Defense in complex litigation, and has lectured or written on Jury Selection, Affidavits, Rule 213 Disclosure and Cross-Examination, Law Office Management, Post-Trial Motions and Appeals, and Uninsured Motorist Coverage for LawEd series, ISBA seminars and NWSBA seminars. He has also written articles for the ISBA Civil Practice Committee.

Judge Hartigan is an appointed Court Certified Mediator, a Major Case Mediator for the Circuit Court of Cook County, an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and an

Independent Arbitrator selected by attorneys. He completed the Advanced Civil Mediation program at National Judicial College in 2012. Judge Hartigan serves as an Adjunct Professor at the John Marshall Law School (2008-present), Northwestern University (1990-present), and DePaul University (1988-present).

Judge Hartigan received the John Marshall Law School Distinguished Service Leadership Award (2009) and Presidents Award (2012), the Community Extension Project 2004 Service Award, the Des Plaines Valley Boy Scouts 2006 “Community Leadership Award,” and the Y.M.C.A. Lay Person of the Year (1992), as well as an award from Fellowship Club of Western Suburbs (2007) and Western Springs Man of the Year (2008). He is a current Board of Directors member for the Berwyn PAV YMCA, board member of Southwest Development Association Summit, Board Member of Pillars, and member of the Illinois Judge’s Association “Media Response

Committee.”

Benjeman L. Nichols is known for his tireless work ethic and his attention to detail. He

concentrates his practice in plaintiff personal injury law, including medical malpractice, products liability, premises liability, and wrongful death.

Mr. Nichols is developing a reputation as an accomplished trial attorney, having obtained

multiple verdicts for his clients. In February 2013, he tried, and won, a medical malpractice case arising out of a forty-four day delay in diagnosis and treatment of a mycobacterium marinum infection. In April 2013, he tried, and won, a motor vehicle collision that resulted in a right hip labral tear, DVT, and postphlebitic syndrome. Mr. Nichols recently assisted in a wrongful death case against the Chicago Transit Authority, which resulted in a $5.5 million settlement. He is currently working on a variety of cases, including a case involving a traumatic brain injury that resulted from a falling sign at a pet store, and a Section 1983 civil rights case arising from the death of an inmate at Menard Correctional Center. He has delivered lectures to a variety of groups, including a panel of Chicago physicians, where he presented on medical malpractice law.

Most recently, Mr. Nichols lectured at the Chicago Bar Association regarding opportunities for litigators to incorporate the iPad into their practice.

Before joining Cavanagh Law Group, Mr. Nichols represented many of Chicago's major hospitals in medical malpractice cases, as well as a number of manufacturers, distributors and other defendants in a variety of personal injury matters. He earned degrees in Music Education and Humanities from Valparaiso University in 1999 and was a music educator in the Chicago Public Schools. He is a Fulbright Scholar who researched East German Lutheran church music in Dresden, Germany, where he worked and studied for several years. He is fluent in both English and German. Mr. Nichols attended law school at Loyola University Chicago, where he was a Corboy Trial Team Advocacy Fellow, a Joan Marie Corboy Advocacy Scholar, an editor of the International Law Review, and a frequent member of the Dean's List. Mr. Nichols was also twice a judicial extern to the Honorable Blanche Manning in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Nichols serves on the Board of Directors for Vox 3

Collective, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, which is committed to arts education. He is an active member of the Chicago Bar Association.

E. Angelo Spyratos is a member/partner of Momkus McCluskey, LLC where he concentrates his practice in civil litigation, insurance defense, and large loss subrogation. Mr. Spyratos appears and tries cases before all State Courts in Northern and Central Illinois, the U.S. District Court, and the Illinois Industrial Commission.

Mr. Spyratos received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Elmhurst College in 1988. While at Elmhurst College, he was a charter member and team captain of the school’s mock trial team, which competed nationally. He was also president of the school’s debate team.

Mr. Spyratos received his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1991. While at Valparaiso, he was a member of the mock trial team and the Jessup moot court team for two years. He worked as a law clerk with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana where, under special license, he tried his first two cases while still a law student. In his final year at Valparaiso, he received the Vaughn Award and Scholarship for trial advocacy. Mr.

Spyratos is licensed in Illinois, and admitted in the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois. He is also a member of the Federal Trial Bar.

Mr. Spyratos has tried 30 civil cases before juries throughout Illinois and in federal court.

Further, he has tried hundreds of cases before the bench and arbitration panels. Mr. Spyratos serves as an arbitrator with the DuPage County Mandatory Arbitration System. He has further served as an attorney coach for his alma mater’s mock trial team.

Mr. Spyratos has co-authored “Defending Transportation Cases,” published in the Illinois Bar Journal in January 2001, “Defending Personal Injury Automobile Cases that Involve Alcohol Consumptions,” DCBA Brief, June 2008, “Preparing for and Deposing Expert Witnesses in Illinois: A Practical Primer,” DCBA Brief June 2012. Additionally, Mr. Spyratos has prepared written materials and presented seminars for the professional organizations, including ISBA, PLRB on Closing Arguments, Material Misrepresentation in Insurance Claims, and on Legal Medical Issues. He has served as an instructor in the DuPage County Bar Association Trial Advocacy Boot Camp Seminar in January 2013. He has presented seminars for the firm’s clients on subjects including Defending Low Impact Automobile Accidents, Tort Reform, The 1996 Amendments to the Discovery Rules, Defending Transportation Cases, Defending Closed Head Injuries, Retaining and Presenting Biomechanical Engineers in Civil Injury Cases, Workers Compensation in Illinois and Liens in Illinois, a Primer for Insurance Claims Handlers.

Mr. Spyratos is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage Bar Association, and Defense Research Institute. He also serves as Director of Hellenic Bar Association of Illinois.

Ray Throckmorton is the Founder of the firm and has consulted on a broad range of projects with attorneys, corporate management, licensing professionals and corporate boards of directors.

He has advised on issues such as development of IP strategies, financing through securitization, disposal of intangible assets, monetization, cost and pricing analyses, and cash flow analysis.

Ray has provided consulting advice to companies within a wide range of industries including computer (software, hardware and networking), construction, financial institutions, food processing, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, real estate and

telecommunications.

He has provided expert testimony in commercial contract disputes on accounting, marketing, and financial issues, appeared before the U.S. Tax Review Board, served as an expert for an

arbitration panel and heard an arbitration dispute. He has been involved in over 350 cases and testified in approximately 24 matters including intellectual property, insurance, accountant’s liability, accounting for business combinations, APB 20, FAS 157, FAS 141 and FAS 142, breach of contract, securities, breach of warranty, fraud, copyright infringement and theft of trade secrets. He computed the damages from the Gulf War.

Ray lectures regularly on intellectual property licensing, royalty auditing and expert witness testimony. He spoke last year on the Effective Selection, Preparation and Use of Expert

Witnesses at the Annual License Executives Society meeting with Judge Farnan. The prior year he spoke on Royalty Audits in China and had a roundtable discussion on Asian License

Compliance. Last spring he spoke on “Labor Saving Approaches and Tools for Patent Portfolio Valuation Extraction-A Financial Model”.

Ray is the co-inventor of provisional patent # 60/324,903, “System and Method for Using an Intellectual Property Portfolio”, a business method patent for securitization and monetization of patent portfolios involving licensing, financing and engineering.

Ray is a CPA and holds an MBA from Illinois State University. He is a member of the Licensing Executive Society, past chair of the Financial Markets Committee, member of the Intellectual Assets Reporting Standards Committee, past Associate Member of the American Bar

Association and a member of both the Illinois CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He has given over 40 speeches to the Licensing Executive Society, LESI in Scotland and England, World Research Group, Insight Conference on Technology Licensing, American Bar Association, ABA Section of Litigation, and the DuPage County Bar Association. He has taught at the Center for Intellectual Property Studies in Gothenburg, Sweden, John Marshall Law School and the Chicago Bar Association Intellectual Property Committee. He has also published in IAM-Intellectual Assert Management, Thompson Financial, and had a chapter in Russell L.

Stephen E. Van Gaasbeck is a sole practitioner with his office in San Antonio, Texas. Since 1997, his practice has been focused exclusively on the litigation of injuries due to defects in automobile air bag systems. Mr. Van Gaasbeck earned his B.A. in Economics at St. Edwards University in 1970 and his J.D. at the University of Houston School of Law in 1974. He is admitted to practice in Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. District Court Western District of Texas, U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit, and U.S. Court of Appeals Tenth Circuit. Mr. Van Gaasbeck is a member of the Texas State Bar Association, San Antonio Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Attorneys Exchange and Information Group, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association, and the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice.

Shawn Wood is a partner in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and serves as national chair of he firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group. He has over 20 years of experience representing companies and individuals in commercial litigation and product liability matters, including breach of contract and post-acquisition disputes, emergency injunction hearings, and matters involving breach of fiduciary duty, wrongful death, defamation, fire loss, and disputes over corporate governance.

Shawn also serves as national counsel for an affiliated group of appliance manufacturers in connection with their commercial and product liability litigation. Shawn is a member of the Federal Trial Bar in the Northern District of Illinois. He has won cases in state and federal courts throughout the country, including in Texas, California, North Carolina, Iowa, and Illinois. He has also prevailed as lead counsel before the United States Fifth and Seventh Circuit Courts of

Appeal and the Illinois First District Appellate Court.

Shawn has published and presented on a wide range of topics relevant to civil practice, commercial litigation and product liability. He co-authors the ISBA Civil Practice Handbook chapter regarding motion practice and serves as an annual presenter at the ISBA Civil Practice Conference. Shawn serves by appointment on the Civil Practice Council of the Illinois State Bar Association and as ISBA liaison to the Seventh Circuit E-Discovery Pilot Program Committee.

He is also a featured columnist in Chicago Lawyer magazine and a recipient of its Annual Writing Award. He has been honored by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin as one of its “40 under 40 Attorneys To Watch” and selected by his peers as an Illinois “Leading Lawyer” in appellate practice and commercial litigation.

Most recently, Shawn was listed among The Best Lawyers in America® 2013 in commercial litigation, and the Commercial Litigation Practice Group that he chairs was ranked in 2013 among the nation’s “Best Law Firms” by Best Lawyers® and U.S. News & World Report.
