Instruction for creating personal
study plan in WebOodi
What is eHOPS?
eHOPS is an electronic study planning tool in WebOodi With eHOPS you can
• Create personal study plan using the information in the Aalto University study register
• Plan a time table for your studies
• Make notes of your personal goals concerning different courses etc. and save them in the eHOPS
• Update and revise your personal study plan
• Check your grades and follow the progression of your degree studies
• Send your personal study plan for approval
Begin the planning process always by familiarizing yourself with
the study planning and HOPS instructions of your degree and the
degree requirements.
Log in to WebOodi as a student.
Select Aalto University Weblogin and type your user name and password.

Click Study plans to create a new personal study plan
1. Begin creating your study plan by setting yourself a target year or graduation.
2. By clicking Create a new study plan you will get a list of templates.
Study right of the degree you are currently taking.
Choose the right degree structure template according to your study right and the year of your admission to Aalto University School of Business.
Students are allowed to choose the template of the academic year of admission to School of Business or years after their admission.
For example, if the year of admission is 2011 and you begin your studies in August 2011 you should choose the template with the date 1.8.2011.
Name your hops with a distinct name. The eHOPS will automatically name your study plan by the date. By changing the name you can create more than one draft on the same day.
Common core courses are held in Finnish or in English. Choose the right language here.
Choose your minor studies from the list. Note that some of the minors are held only in Finnish.
After choosing your minor, click Save.
The third alternative is for students who doesn’t speak Finnish.
If there is no list to choose from, you can also add courses by using the link at the end of every module.
Click the link “Search…” to see a search view where you can search courses using the course code.
Use this only in special cases when you are not able to add courses from an existing list.
In addition to compulsory courses there can be electives and also compulsory courses you can choose from a group of courses. These courses you have to add to the plan by clicking the Add button and selecting courses form the list.
The eHOPS will show you how many credits you have planned and completed in your degree.
If the number is in red it means that you have too many or not enough credits planned.
Compulsory courses are automatically added to your study plan.

You can change the degree requirements (= study guide) by using Change button. Note! You can choose the requirements for the year of your admission or later.
If ”a teacher” is shown after a course it means that registration for this course is going. By clicking this you can go to the registration page.
The Time button on the right side of each planned course is for timing of studies. To make time tables for all courses at the same time see slide 13.
You can use this function also to define credits for courses. Defining credits is possible only for some specific courses.
Add ‐button
If you have completed courses in this part those courses are listed here.
Click to add courses to your study plan. When you have added all the planned courses click << Back
When you have added enough courses the planned credits is in black.
If you added wrong courses click Delete and use Add button to choose the right course from the list.
If you have chosen the same course in two parts in your study plan a red exclamation mark is shown after courses and credits for this course are not included in your study plan.
By clicking “a paper” button after a course you can write down comments or notes about this course.
In each comment field you can select whether you want the notes in that comment field to be public (advisers can see them) or whether you want to keep them private.
Advisers can comment your study plan only if you send your plan for comments.
The eHOPS will keep your comments private unless you tick the box Public.
When you have selected all courses you can create a schedule for your studies.
Planned credits for each period and each academic year are calculated on the top of the page.
Hops is ready for approval when you have chosen enough courses for all parts and the time table for studies is ready.

Comment field takes you to the comment view where your notes concerning the degree are listed.
Set as primary link will able you to set your plan as the primary plan. Only primary study plans can be send for approval or for comments. You can have only one primary study plan.
Send for comments: Sending your HOPS for comments means that your HOPS will become available to the commentator. Your HOPS will be returned to you with comments and, if needed, you will be able to make changes in your HOPS. Sending your HOPS for comments is not the same as sending it for approval. Please do not send your HOPS for comments before making sure that the recipient uses the eHOPS commenting system.
Send for approval: Sending your HOPS for approval means that your HOPS will be given the status of Official Personal Study Plan at Aalto BIZ. You can only have one officially approved HOPS.
The official approved HOPS will be the source of information in all study related situations. The approval of your HOPS means that your study plans meet the degree requirements. However, it does not mean, that you will automatically get a study right to all the courses and modules planned in your hops or that credits will automatically be transferred according to you plan.
Instructions will take you to Into‐webpage. The page opens in Finnish but you can change the language on the top of the page.
Select the correct person who approves your personal study plan. If you have a study program, the person is usually the study coordinator of the department.

Note! The person who approves your personal study plan is never your tutor teacher.
Send for approval
The status of your study plan can be
• Draft: Drafts are only visible to you. Advisers can not see your drafts in the eHOPS.
• Primary: Setting a draft as a primary means that it becomes visible in the eHOPS to the advisers and you can send it for approval.
• Waiting comments: After sending your primary study plan for comments, you are not able to revise it before you have received comments
• Being approved: After sending your study plan for approval it will be locked and you are not able to revise it. If your study plan is approved, it will stay locked. If your study plan can not be approved, it will be returned to you which will unlock it and you will be able to make the required changes to it.
• Approved: Study plan is officially approved and you are not able to change it. eHOPS creates a copy of approved study plan. The status of this copy is primary and you are able to change it.
