my life in the art world..

Before embarking on a career as a Production Designer, Patti Podesta was well known as an artist, curator and teacher. Her early performative video works "Stepping" and "Richochet" consider the problem of embodiment and are described as "subtly transgressive." Later works investigate philosophical reflection via the film form and the female subject. Over the course of ten years, she became increasingly involved with narrative form. Films include "A Glory" and "A Short Conversation From The Grave With Joan Burroughs."

Ms. Podesta's works have been screened throughout the United States and Europe including the Museum of Modern Art, the Rotterdam Film Festival, the American Film Institute National Video Festival, the Pacific Film Archives and recently at LACMA and the UCLA Hammer Museum. Her work was included in the Getty Museum's historic "California Video" exhibition and catalogue. She has received numerous awards and grants for the work.
