You Need A Savior
Radio show host Dave Ramsey calls it “stuffitis:” it infects us, making us think that happiness and fulfillment is only one purchase or upgrade away. At Christmas time, all of the advertisements feed right into our tendency to stuffitis.
Combined with easy access to credit, this seeking of happiness at the checkout line has led to disastrous results for American families: credit-card debt has increased over 300% in the last three decades (adjusted for inflation), and 76% of households report that they live paycheck to paycheck.
Stuffitis and a lack of financial peace is really a symptom of a greater hole in our hearts. We are yearn-ing for infinite love, and the God-shaped hole in our hearts can’t be filled by even the best smartphone or vacation. Our hearts are crying out for our savior and redeemer, Jesus.

As Christmas nears, why not try to keep the focus on Jesus and your need for him? The best gift you can give yourself and your loved ones this Christmas is to seek to draw closer to the Infinite God, who loved you so much that he entered into the world so that he could allow you personally to share in his life and his joy.
Jesus is reaching out to you this Christmas… will this Advent come and go with nothing to show for it but a crushing credit-card bill, or will you begin the new year with a deeper relationship with the only one who can fill the longings of your heart?
— Father Andrew

Parish Tithe for
October and November:
Advent Penance Services
If you were unable to attend the recent Penance Service at Transfiguration, please plan to join an upcoming service at an area parish. All services begin at 7 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 15 Our Lady of Perpetual Help Tuesday, Dec. 16 St. Martin de Porres
Wednesday, Dec. 17 St. Peter Thursday, Dec. 18 Corpus Christi
Please remember that you also have the opportunity for Reconciliation every Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and every Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. (excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day).
Christmas Caroling
Our Youth Ministry will travel to parishioner homes the evening of Saturday, December 20, bringing Christmas cheer through song. Deepa needs a few more homes to “host” the teens (i.e., allow them to sing in front of your house).
If you live within 20 minutes of the parish and are interested, please call her at (678) 439-7120 by Wednesday, December 17.
Please remember to return gifts
by Sunday, December 21. Items do not
need to be wrapped, but if you do wrap
yours, please place the tag you picked
out on the outside of the gift for
ease of distribution.
Toiletry Kits — In the past, Transfiguration parishioners have been very generous in donating needed hygiene items for the homeless, which are distributed at the annual Christmas Dinner at St. Peter Catholic Church. Each toiletry kit consists of a gallon-sized plastic bag filled with a toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, soap, deodorant, shampoo, shaving cream and two razors.
If you would like to donate items in bulk, please drop them off in the marked bins at the back of the church by Sunday, December 21. If you or your family would like to donate plastic bags filled with the needed toiletries, that would also be appreciated.
Of course, anyone is welcome to serve dinner for the homeless at St. Peter on Christmas Day. For more information, please contact Marge Butler at (803) 691-0010 or at [email protected].
Service Outreach
Collection Counters
The counting schedules for January through April will be made up shortly. Because of the holiday bulletin deadlines, your available dates are needed by December 15.
Please call Shirley Sipowicz at (803) 736-4005 or contact her at [email protected] with the dates you are available.
Are you a business owner or self-employed and enjoy know-ing you’re helpknow-ing to support the Church? Please consider sponsoring the weekly bulletin by advertising your business. It’s a great way to reach the folks who want to support your business too (i.e., your Church family!) And, the revenue from sponsor ads allows Transfiguration to receive the bulle-tin printed and shipped completely free of charge.
A representative from our bulletin’s publisher will be working in the parish office the week of Dec. 22 to answer any questions about rates and space availability. You can also email her at [email protected] or call her at (302) 745-2547.
