Oak Class Home Learning W/C - 11/01/21 Phonics:

This week’s sound is the letter ‘r’.

Oxford Owl Floppy’s Phonics Resource: Click on the speaker buttons and try and copy and sign the words. Practise trying to spell the words or sound out the words. Try and identify where the ‘o’ sound is in the word, e.g. at the start in odd and in the middle in got. Can you make a sentence using the o words?

o https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/28366.html o Username: pearoak Password: password01

Try singing along with these ‘r’ songs

o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9BzWBufH1s&safe=active o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5z941Xx2fM&safe=active o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3cQWN6QP5s&safe=active

Explore a tray of ‘r’ items or look around your house for these items. E.g. red, rabbit, rocket

Print these symbols. Practise looking at the words and signing them. Can your child sort the symbols into this weeks sound and last week’s sound ‘u’ using the symbols from last week?

(2)

Cut the words separate to the pictures. Can you read the word and match it to the picture? Some of us can write the word for the picture without being given the word. Some of us can write a sentence using the ‘r’ sound. A good example is ‘The rabbit flew in the red rocket.’

Practise writing the letter ‘r’ and making circles and curved marks. We like putting things like couscous, flour and shaving foam on a tray and using our fingers or a brush to make the letter ‘r’ or make marks. Use these worksheets to help practise.

We love reading a new book as a class on a Friday. Take some time to read a book with your child or can they read some of it with you? Talk about the pictures and the characters and what happens in the story. Some of us have been learning how to find the author of our books. Can you find who wrote the story? If you don’t have many books, there are lots available here https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/b00jdlm2/cbeebies-bedtime-stories being read to you or here if you would like to download some free books to read together https://monkeypen.com/pages/free-childrens-books

This week we are looking at ordinal numbers- this is a fancy word for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Can you line up different items you can find in your house and practise saying which item

is in which position. E.g. You could ask which toy is 1st and try and point to the right toy. You can practise pointing to each item and saying what position they are in. Try this up to 1st, 2nd and last. When you have got this, you could try up to 5th. If this is too easy, you could go up to even higher.

Here are some links to practise identifying an items position. You will need different colours for these.

(12)

coin from a choice of two coins. For example, showing your child 2 coins and asking which one is the £1 coin. Some of us have been looking at making £1 with a variety of coins. For example, counting 2 x 50p coins or 10 x 10p coins. Most of us have got really good at counting 1p coins to pay for a certain item, for example, a toy costs 7p, and then counting 7 x 1ps to buy it. It would be great to practise this.

Here are some great counting or addition games, we love to play in class. o https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/underwater-counting o https://www.topmarks.co.uk/addition/robot-addition

o https://www.topmarks.co.uk/addition/addition-to-10

o https://www.teachertoolkit.co.uk/2018/02/01/azoomee/

What did Jack do? How do you think Robbie was feeling? Is being kind online the same as being kind offline?

Discuss how people communicate, share and interact online e.g. texting, video calls, playing games, etc.
