Guernsey has years of

experience analyzing

existing structures

for a wide variety of

structural issues and

renovations.

Foundation Settlement Issues:

• Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative, Kaufman, TX: Analyzed their

headquarters facility for issues with soil movement that was causing

distress in the exterior walls, concrete floor, storefront system, and exterior paving. Provided possible repair and retrofit solutions to resolve the issues. • Walters Tourist Information Center,

Walters, OK: Performed a site evaluation and analysis of the information center in response to concerns with soil movement and foundation settlement. Documented cracking in interior and exterior

finishes and provided repair and retrofit options to mitigate further damage.

• Lawton Indian Hospital, Lawton, OK: Performed a structural evaluation and analysis of existing concrete basement walls in response to

concerns with wall movement and cracking. Provided possible repair options and solutions to prevent further movement.*

Corrosion Issues:

• Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative, Kaufman, TX: Analyzed their structural steel subfloor support system for severe corrosion. Prepared solutions to reinforce critical areas of the steel structure.

• Gates Hardware, Tulsa, OK: Performed a structural evaluation of the existing concrete structure.

Documented corrosion of concrete beams, columns, and slab. Prepared solutions to clean, patch, and repair areas in question.*

Occupancy Changes:

• American Fidelity, 9000 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City, OK: Analyzed the existing roof structure on the twelfth floor for a change in occupancy from typical roof loads to an assembly area. Designed a carbon fiber reinforcement solution to strengthen the existing concrete pan joist system to meet the higher load demand.

• USDA Facility, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK: Performed a structural investigation and

analysis of existing floor structure for a change in occupancy from typical office loads to a storage area. Created a plan for placement of storage file cabinets in order to avoid the need for reinforcement of

existing structure.*

Blast Analysis:

• Plains Midstream Canada, Steelman Facility Analysis, Saskatchewan, CA: Did a structural observation and study of the existing buildings to determine their ability to withstand catastrophic events that may occur due to the operations of the facility.

Renovations and Remodels:

• American Fidelity, 9000 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City, OK: Analyzed the ground floor for the introduction of a new elevator opening in the existing concrete pan joist system. Designed reinforcement and new supports to allow for the elevator shaft to be cut into the floor.

• Air National Guard, Building 1013, Oklahoma City, OK: Analyzed an existing hangar for new loads imposed by upgraded mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems.

• Oklahoma Military Department, Edmond Readiness Center, Edmond, OK: Analyzed existing structure for renovations and modifications to load bearing walls.

• Tinker AFB, Relocate Air Base Wing Headquarters, Oklahoma City, OK: Analyzed four existing structures for renovations and modifications to the structural systems.

• Cox Communications, Ketchum, ID: Analyzed existing structural system that was failing and causing the owners concerns about life safety. Designed addition to the structure and retrofit options to bring existing structure up to current building code.*

• U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, San Diego VA 4th Floor: Analyzed existing structure for renovations that included new mechanical unit loads on the steel truss floor structure.*

• Vet Med Teaching Hospital, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK: Analyzed the existing floor structure for support a new MRI system.*

• Gates Hardware, Tulsa, OK: Analyzed existing concrete structure for the addition of a new steel-framed second level. Renovation and addition included new floor openings for an elevator and stairs, floor infill at existing openings, and punched openings in exterior walls of various materials.*

• Oklahoma Air National Guard, Tulsa, OK: Analyzed three existing hangars for support of a new fire suppression system. Designed modifications to the existing steel structure for increase in loads.*

• Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, OK: Analyzed existing steel trusses for support of new monorail of increase capacity. Designed modifications to the existing structure for increased loads.*

• Bank of Oklahoma, Candlewood, Oklahoma City, OK: Analyzed existing structural system for a lobby addition and drive-through expansion. Provided retrofit designs for foundation and wood framing systems.*

• Mid-Continent Tower Parking Facility, Tulsa, OK: Analyzed existing parking structure for new multi-story elevator and stair openings. Provided structural design for connection of new elements to existing

structure.*

• Oklahoma Air National Guard, Tulsa, OK: Designed addition to existing Base Civil Engineering building to accommodate additional classroom space. Provided design for connections of new structure to existing. • Oklahoma Air National Guard Fire Station, Tulsa, OK: Designed addition to the structure and retrofit

options to bring existing structure up to current building code. Provided structural assistance for remodel of existing wash bays and offices.*

Storm Hardening:

• Kiamichi Electric Cooperative Headquarters Building, Wilburton, OK: Designed a storm hardened space that can withstand 250 mph winds.

• Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative Headquarters Building, Dalhart, TX: Designed a storm hardened space that can withstand 250 mph winds.

• Central Rural Electric Cooperative, Stillwater, OK: Designed a storm hardened space that can withstand 250 mph winds.

Seismic Upgrades:

• Carlisle Food Service Products, Oklahoma City, OK: Analyzed existing building for the possibility of providing new storefront windows in the exterior walls. Performed Ground Penetrating Radar testing of the existing walls in order to determine the ability of the walls to carry gravity and lateral loads after providing the new openings.

• Gates Hardware, Tulsa, OK: Analyzed existing concrete structure for removal of exterior multi-wythe brick walls in order to provide new storefront windows.*
